Excelsior class (NX/NCC-2000/Lakota) WIP
« on: January 23, 2007, 10:17:30 pm »
OK, this'll take some time to do, but hey, I can get away with causing a  few heartattacks  :P

OK, here's the first in line, the NX-2000.

I'll turn this model also to the NCC-2000 and Lakota versions when I'll eventually be done unwrapping her.

...and yes, these are direct replacements to LC's (he's Lakota was never released).

Very nice. I'm sure she'll be a stunner, man. BTW, did you ever release the Akyazi in your sig? I missed it if you did. If not, is there any chance I can get it for personal use?

Akyazi's should be out soon for both BC and SFC.

i still say your a tease considering its going to almost 15k in its poly count

15k is a rough estimate of the eventual Lakota variant.

I don't know, the Ingram I know of has little in common with the Excel we know and love.

The Mesh looks really great.  Can't wait to see the textures.  I hope it has a Undiscovered Country look to her when she's done.

Defenetly awsome. I hope you do the B type as well, everyone always mentions the bulge not being right on p81's enterprise B. It's going to look nice next to them akyazi's.

More than just that is wrong. My biggest beefs were the impulse engines and warp nacelles - the former aren't shaped correctly, while the latter are too thin. I'm one of the few who likes the B, but the lapses in detail on P81's model stick out like a sore thumb and make her almost as ugly as its dissenters claim.

well P81 kinda does that, he sacrificed detail because of poly reduction, adonis has no such constraints so expect the most detailed excels made for gaming purposes

The worst infamous trait of P81 meshes are the overexposed panel, butt-ugly textures. Even on he's Excel, which should really be a ship with a smooth hull.

I'll have you a general issue update in a day or two, maybe sooner. Depends oh how hot it will be over here. I can't work at day because of the extreme heat.

I'd love it if we could get a good Enterprise-B out of this affair - the last one was Moonraker's all the way back in 2001. But in this age of high-detail models and textures, it's outdated beyond help.

As for P81's models, his latest Excelsior isn't bad. But the Enterprise-B is horrible. Polygon reduction or not, it gets basic qualities wrong that older models mimicked respectably. I don't mean to be a prat, but it was a disappointing regression beyond the textures.

Maybe I'd be a fan if they kept blue for the detailing on the B instead of switching to teal...

Though for whatever reason, I thought the Excelsior looked best as a Prototype. Must be the NX... *shrug*

And I found this wonderful Render of the B that, hopefully, Adonis can match or surpass with his skills:

Also good to see that you have the prototype detailing down. Accuracy was a concern of mine :D

Looks real good, man. Nice to see her "white" as opposed to the dingy gray that's typically used for Fed models.

While I do like the ST6 version better overall (because of the minor details that differ from the first version and the drastically-changed interiors), I really like your take on the first Excelsior (of the three you're doing so far).  I'm most caught by the first of the two WIP pics on June 19.  If altered only very slightly, it looks very sleek and even more futuristic...  And for some reason, I'm reminded of the Nintendo Wii.  I guess it's because of how clean the WIP looks, especially under a white background.

I hopped over to WickedZombie's forums a while ago and noticed he saw the little stint that took place....

http://wickedzombie45.proboards46.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1184047901

Basically what he said was that the texture size, not the polygon count, which causes lag in computers.

So I'd assume that no trimming of the poly count is necessary. As long as the textures are ginormous, it should still be a beautiful ship to play. 'Sides, as WZ says... Adonis created the model. It's his choice weather or not to bow to certain restrictions that others think are necessary.

hmm no not when it comes to the poly limit of the game, as it stands its over the red line for all SFC games, hence why outalance needs to do the poly reduction

The NX Excel is 10.7k that's below the red line, the NCC will be simmilar in PC too. About the lakota...that remains to be seen. I really cannot give an estimate.

Doubtful.

Like most modellers, Adonis never works on the same project from beginning to end and then starts something else.

To avoid being burnt out, he'll work on one project, and more than likely get inspiration for another project already in the works, and then another, and another.

When this is the case, it takes time.  But that doesn't mean you still can't ask how this baby's coming along.   ;D

Different models. The NCC was the original NX with changes, and the Flashbacks one was a model built by Greg Jein. It's a dumbed down aztec version only to be honest, not particularly worth of attention.

I'm in a process of remapping her after some extra changes (got one more left to do), when real life permits that is.
Easy is the path to wisdom for those not blinded by themselves.

There's also some lighting differences between the various models. One of the reasons I like the NX version was because it didn't go overboard on the nacelle lighting. I feel TMP ships are advanced enough to be beyond excessive glowy components.

Good to hear progress still being made on these, Adonis. Hope life gives you time.

I am bumping this because I want this excelsior!

Was the BC pack put out? Could someone convert it for the rest of us?
