Topic: Pickup trucks and Transmisions

 I'm at a point to where I can start thinking about another vehicle, still would like a truck maybe, but was wondering tho which is better to have in a truck automatic or manual. I can drive a manual but it's been a long time other than a semi truck type transmission. but I suppose their simular in operation.  truck would probably be either Ford or a GMC.

IMHO I would go automatic.  Todays transmisions can handle the torque.

gmc would be bether, there big problem with the ford F-150, something to do with the direction, the part that hold the weel seem to kinda rust too fast and you loose control (go rent a u-haul truck and your lucky if you have no problem with it)

I thought that was the problem with the Dodge Durango. The joint would break and the wheel came off. They recalled most of them.

Ive never had a problem with a Ford. GMC replacement parts tend to be expensive.

Edit: I would go with a manual transmission. Much easier to fix.

My Roommate is finding out exactly why I won't ever buy a foreign car.  He failed his emmision inspection yesterday, to get a few simple parts is going to cost him almost $1500, and he can't have his car back until at least friday.

There are more internal parts hence more can go wrong with a automatic transmission.  As long as you keep the transmission fluid changed on time it shouldn't be a problem anymore.
