Topic: Question for you Mac heads

I have some old 3.5 inch floppies that have Mac Word files on them that I would like to view on my PC.  Does anyone know a way to get these files off the floppies and on to my PC?  I've seen some converter programs but they seem to only work with CD's and not floppies.  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance for your help.

read them into a Mac with a floppy drive (have fun finding one, Apple hasn't made a floppy drive since 99), then save as Word 9x/200x.

the problem is most likely that you have a mac formatted disk, you need to either get them on to a PC formatted disk or ethernet it over, or a USB flash drive.  How old is this disk?  What version of word was this?  What kind of computer was this created on?  I would just like to get a better idea of what you're working with.

If I remember correctly they are Word '97 file and are on Mac formatted disks that are at least 10 years old.  The disks were formatted on one of those old pod looking Macs with a 12" screen and a floppy drive all in one.

You don't have a mac with a floppy drive?  If you have a more recent mac without a floppy, then you can use a USB external floppy drive.  The best option then is if you are using mac OS 9 or earlier, but I think if you are running on OS X you can make it work as well.

Long ago this question was asked by another forum member - me.  I was able to find the original thread and solution.

The solution was a program calls TransMac.  You have a 30 day trial period then its US $64.00.

Thanks Nemesis, but the program wouldn't read the diskettes.  Kept getting the error "Can not read Mac disk".  I think the only thing I can do at this point is to see if I can find an old Mac on Ebay or something.  Thanks again everyone for your input.

You might try contacting the local print shops and see if anyone has such a machine and would be willing to recover your files, the same for any local tech support groups or even Mac User groups.  Even a high school computer lab might be able and willing to help you out.
