Got Some Gorns up
« on: January 22, 2007, 06:09:29 am »
I've been working on getting some stuff done.

This is Atolm's original mesh that the other 2 are bashed from

This is basically the same model in the traditional SFB layout

...and the light cruiser version.

Now, before you guys get started...  They're based on SFB. SFB Gorns are grey. I like SFB Gorns. I know that there are some of you who don't. Well, these aren't for you then.  :P They're for the people who like SFB Gorns but would like to see them "styled up" a bit. That's why I asked Atolm to make me some Gorn meshes.
Someone's gonna say, "I don't like the models, but do you have those planets in .mod?" Well, no I don't. Maybe someday I'll get around to doing up some planets. Actually, I'm fairly certain that I will. Not yet though. I have more SFB style models to do first.

I've scaled these a fair bit larger than their Federation counterparts. I'm basing it off of the fact that Gorns are bigger than humans, have larger crews by numbers, and larger shuttle bays than the Feds (or Roms, Klinks, Kzintis, etc...). They're supposed to be big, bad, plasma boats. So, that's why they're a little bit bigger. I did adjust the color to match the other Gorns that I've done. These are older designs than the War Cruisers were. I hope the styling reflects that. Fixed a couple of other minor details as well.
here's a pic with one of WZ's Connies to show the scale.
enjoy, there's more coming in the next few days.

Very Cool -

I like these a lot.  The "stock" Gorn ships for SFCOP -- never really liked them.....  someday, when I run another server I'd LOVE to swap these in.  Psyched to see what else you've got in the works SFBwise

Cheers

These are some cool models. Something has always made me uncomfortable about this styles overall shape though, I wish I knew what it was. Maybe it's that they seem so simplistic, or maybe it is a gut reaction to something alien. Wouldn't that be cool, the idea that this is how I'd feel if I really did see this ship out my viewport while in deep space.

Hey Rod,

Are these the ones you said you'd re-scale? Or just more ships at the same large scale? The comparison pic seems to show you've shrunk them a little.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad you like 'em. I described what I wanted them to look like to Atolm and, in a matter of minutes he started cranking them out.
I think that one of the criteria for SFB designs is that the shapes used be simple. Basic primitives that have been adjusted so that they accomodate the Treknology stuff.
Yes, these are the same models rescaled down by about 35%. As stated they are still rather large for the reasons given. The CA is around 420 mtrs. That's just the size it came out to after adjusting for the reasons stated
E_Look, the SFC1 versions were made with you in mind. I'm glad you like them.
