Little advice, please...
« on: January 11, 2007, 01:04:40 am »
Im building a new machine, and already have the video card (ATI x1600 pro AGV), so the next thing is the mobo+cpu, and im thinking on Intel, so the question is, wich one is better, the Pentium D945 or the Pentim doble core E6300 (maybe the E6400 if I can afore it) ?

If you've got the cash, dual core baby.

Core Duo, no questions it is a better chip.

If you dont have the cash for a Intel Core2Duo, then I would at least recommend a P4 2.0+ GHz with HT

C2D is what you should get, ignore the pentium Ds, they are dead end techs when it comes to upgrade paths.

The ASUS P5W DH DELUXE and the ABIT AB9 PRO would be good choices for a mobo...according to my research.

Pepperman is right, those 2 are good mobos, however your selection of the of the motherboard should also depend on whther you want to eventually go crossfire. I know that the abovementioned Asus board supports crossfire mode, and it is actually quite pricey. But i'm just not sure if the Abit does. Here's 2 other crossfire supporting mobos that are supposed to be good: MSI 975X platinum and Intel D975XBX2.

DFI makes some good Crossfire boards, and their products specialize in stable overclocking.

Just a little update regarding ATI crossfire components. There are only 5 motherboards officially certified by ATI for crossfire mode for intel core 2 duo processors: The Asus board mentioned by pepperman, the MSI and Intel boards mentioned by me in the previous post and Gigabyte GA-G1975X and Intel D975XBX.

For a complete list of ATI crossfire certified components visit:
