Just Married
« on: January 02, 2007, 06:12:10 pm »
Hey everyone!
I was able to go home for a couple of weeks for Christmas.  During that time I got married (my fiancee and I have been dating for over six years) and we got an apartment.  We've been wanting to get married for a while now, but weren't financially stable enough to justify it.  Now that I joined the National Guard, we have enough money to get everything we need to get started.  I'm back at Ft. Gordon now, but will be finished with my training and back home near the end of March.

Not yet.  We're hoping that it will be a while before we start having children.

Isn't that the truth!

Been there twice..the first time for a 2 week SATCOM school to interface fixed terminals with mobile SATCOM..(1987), the second time to pick up my son after he graduated from the full blown SATCOM school in 2001..nothing had changed except they moved the old -54 terminal of the comm building and made it a display near the PX...

And Disgusta GA remains what it is...an small enclave of rich folks and the rest living off the military...

Thank you everyone.
We eloped, so there's not much in the way of pictures.  Also, I don't have any way of scanning pictures of her that I have here.  Sorry.

I can't wait until I finish my training and get the hell out of here.  This place really drains the life out of you.
It looks like they're trying to push us through our training as quickly as possible since the backlog of soldiers who are waiting to start classes is only getting worse.  I heard today that I might be getting out of here sooner than expected.

I'm training as a 25U (signal support systems specialist).  I've already passed my classes on A+, N+, Windows XP/Outlook, TCP/IP, switches, and routers.  I'm currently in the FBCB2 class at Burkhardt Hall.

That's awesome..don't know what the Army specialties are..I was USAF and retired in '94

I think the USAF would call you Tech Controllers or Computer Systems Specialists..not sure anymore, everything changes over the years..heh, I joined the Air Force 33 years ago come the 14th of January..starting to feel kinda old

Enjoy yourself, and have fun while your young...

And now the shameless request..could you send me a couple of bags of Wise potatoe chips from the commisary?  I Can't get them here in NE and I will gladly pay you for them..I'm in the book

Take care of your wife, and my most sage advice..listen to her when she needs to talk (and she will)..coming up on my 32nd anniversary, and the only scars I have are from cutting myself while cooking dinner  :D

Have a good week in BDUs, while I lounge about in my blue jeans and sweatshirt

Frigga man! They have computer classes now in our services. I remember the 286s and if you did not know how to work them you were SOL. Tech to take it apart? Give me a break, only had a hard drive, RAM, and floppy, and maybe a very slow internet port.  ;D

After Desert Storm I had a cush job in Germany while my fellow medics toiled away cleaning barracks for 1st AD to move in. Why? My privately bought 386 could chew up any Army program in seconds that took the military 286s to do, plus my C.O. loved wing commander and silent hunter 2. Yup, that was my "Sergeant's time" in Germany after the war, seeing what happened next in the Wing commander saga.  ;)

Thanks for the advice.  Fortunately, I'm a good listener.  That's one of the things that first attracted her to me (that and the fact that I could talk to her without staring at her boobs when we first met).

Unfortunately, it's against TRADOC policy for MOS-I soldiers (soldiers in training who have not qualified in an MOS yet, like myself) to go to the commissary.  Don't ask me why.  It's a stupid rule, but so is the rule about not being allowed to use the hood of your pancho even when it's pouring down rain.

Also, we have ACUs now.  BDUs are going out of style.  Let's just hope the terrorists don't find out that you can stop a whole battalion of ACU-clad soldiers by laying down a huge strip of Velcro.
