USS Bradford NCC-545 (pics)
« on: December 25, 2006, 04:40:37 am »
A little while back E_Look NCC-9091 posted inquiring what others use for a TOS Frigate besides the Burke-class. I've never been fond of the Burke myself, not liking the placement of the nacelles so close to the saucer. He mentioned some other classes of ships, that converted to TOS were ships he'd used. That made me think that the Akula design could make a good alternative to the Burke-class, if done TOS with frigate components. It'd get the nacelles well away from the saucer without adding any secondary hull. So, here's my interpretation. I used Saladin inspired scaled Connie saucer necks for the warp pylons (both top and bottom). Adds front/rear balance to the design without adding a secondary hull. I find the Akula is a bit front heavy aesthetically.
She's dressed out as I would expect a ship to look fresh out'a space dock refit. All emblems and decals intact and full parade lighting. Now, after putting in 2 or 3 times for routine maintanance and repairs and a few thousand lightyears of dust, radiation, weathering, etc... she probably wouldn't look so pretty. For now though she's all spit and polished.
On a personal note, the U.S.S. Bradford (DD545), was a real US Navy destroyer that my father served on as fire control technician. Enjoy and Merry Christmas.

My only suggestion would be to tone down some of the colors a bit, you got too much gloss or whatever I'm not exactly sure how to describe the problem. Thats pretty much the only prob she's got, it looks sweet otherwise.

I actually kinda like the paint job he did with the Starfleet Logos.  Really makes the ship look like a Starfleet vessel.  I think its too bad (including the original connie) didn't have Paint Jobs more like this back during the original series.

Ho!  Ho!  Ho!

No, not me!  I was quoting Rod O'Neal!

Thank you very much and Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and easy modeling to you sir!!... And +1 to you under your tree!

I wish I was able to log on on Christmas Day; it would have helped make my Christmas, adding to the physical model of the TOS Enterprise from Hallmark (just one minor kvetch- the lights come on too brightly), and a star chart calendar.

Now, this may offend/disappoint some of you, but I own lots of the Hallmark Star Trek Christmas tree ornaments, though I did intentionally not buy some of them... but for several Christmases now, I have NOT put any on my tree!

I kinda think they belong more on shelves... and in the case of Rod's most excellent little Starfleet frigate, IN GAME!!!

The tree comes down in a little while, but his model is going to fly for quite some time!

Just when you think this can't get more OT dept.:

I made a sweep lately through my old CDs containing lots of old SFC models (the only kind I have) and John Stone's SFC Refit Spacedock site and checked out the planet models.

I replaced old familiar things like Earth, Mars, Jupiter, and the Moon... but Saturn variations, especially the fan-modeled ones, are just beautiful to me to replace... with some rather more far out textures (and a usable .mod planet model) and now, with Rod's frigate, it looks like I have a brand new game...

... and I'm talking SFC1!!

(Now I've got to work on reinstalling and working on my EAW, OP, and SFC3   :P)
