Its more a realistic space sim game, a sequel to the 1997 "Starfleet Academy" PC game. It's not great in visuals, but nice storyline, a balanced game with Klingon, Federation, Romulan, Gorn, Tholian, and "Sha'kurian" (Think Hydran and Kzinti/Malak) species, with ships both canonical and non-canonical, all well made and balanced, although not as much ship choices when you pass the Klingon and Federation ship choices... Remember the stock ship choices for Fed, Klink, Rom, and Gorn ships for SFC/SFC Volume 2? Chances are, they're likely lower-poly versions of Klingon Academy starship models.
You can pilot around, go upside down while fighting ships, colliding into them (although after doing so you bump away like bumper cars without tearing into each other, ala Bridge Commander/KA Lite), assaulting starbases, fighting around in planetary rings, nebulae, gas giants, planetary atmospheres, inside a star, or near a black hole (accretion disk), warping around in-system (left and right turns to get to your target), breakable starship models, etc.
