Here are a few screen shots of a Borg Cube that I am working on for Armada 2.

I like that a lot.
To me it looks like a some kind of Borg Transwarp Conduit Architect Cube...
Damn Nice, I could really start going off on some designing tangent using this as a means to an end for the Borg.

As you know, inspiration can come from a multitude of place.  The inspiration for this came from here

At the time, I didn't know what a weighted companion cube was...I just know I thought the over all design would work for the Borg.   

In keeping with the portal idea, the Borg have assimilated a race of advanced beings which had mastered trans-dimensional portal technology. The Borg adapted this technology into the collective and have built an cube outfitted with an experimental trans-dimensional portal generator. This particular cube is designed with an internal spherical dome which serves as a lens to focus the massive amount of energy created by the generator. Once the proper amount of energy is obtained and the desired frequency reached, the cube projects a beam that enables a trans-dimensional portal to be opened. Once the portal is opened, a Shadow (from Babylon 5) vessel will emerge forming an alliance between these two races.  Unfortunately, the coding for the alliance aspect is proving problematic.
