A face lift maybe ?
« on: November 26, 2006, 01:42:58 pm »
Has anyone thought about maybe putting together a texture and space background enhancement pack for op try to give it as new a look in game as possible alot of time has been spent on models, missions and of course other works and I for one swapped out the space backgrounds from op with sfc3 stuff. I have seen textures redone for mods in sfc3 as well as op, but what about something for the original game?

I had a few ideas.  But I lost all of my crap when my dell got fried.

There's tons of ships for SFC, but I agree, there's not enough models for stellar phenomena (Wormholes, black holes, galactic plane, ect.)

An eye candy mod would be kinda nice didnt they redo space backgrounds for uaw? or was it just stuff from sfc3 I cant remember been so long since i have even looked at this game. An updated texture pack would be cool I have a couple of fx texture's laying around that someone had made for the hydran weapons, anyone else got some idea's or thoughts about this?

yea when you enter a sector there rarely a sun and on 1 to 2 planets, the sectors are empty, making more alive would be fun.

That's a scripting issue, not just space backgrounds. Those are "map objects", I believe is the term. Now that doesn't mean that a picture of a sun or planet couldn't be added to a space background. I'm not too sure how good it'd look and it wouldn't be interactive with the gameplay, like the planets, etc. are typically.

not necesarily. In SFC3 the "Space Background" is actually a .mod model... I've made numerous multi-planet and/or terrain models with some other twists and turns mixed in, I believe it is the same for EAW and OP.  Now the Sun would be difficult to make it look realistic, as the models would not radiate light like the scripted sun effect in mission scripts. But if there is a will, there is usually a creative work around.

In my day I have recovered a lot of data for folks who had dead drives and claimed their stuff was gone.  Unless it is completely dead I could get a bunch for you.  I have some advanced programs that do a good job of recovering data.

If it spins up then I can get stuff off it.  It is does not spin up then it is beyond me.

I was reading on one of your other posts it was a power surge, ...

I would be your data can be recovered.

Power surges rarely get all the way to a drive to fry it.  It usually blows the power supply and sometimes will get the motherboard.  Have you tried hooking it up in tandem with your new system and tried to browse it ?

//OFF TOPIC//I tried that about a month ago with my grandmother's old PC.  Hooked the Dell HD straight to it, and tried it first as a main and second as a slave drive.  I got nothin' from it both times, so I'm pretty sure everything got cooked.

You could try altering the textures on the space models with the sun graphics in the /assets/textures folder, but it wouldn't animate.  It may still look cool, though, so I guess I could try it and see if I can take a few screens to post what it looks like.  Only trouble is there's a LOT of space models and twice as many textures.

<.< If I don't come back in five days, send an away team and find me...

What else might work is merging a planet model or 2 with a space model and putting all of the textures in one folder. The planets would just be eye candy. They wouldn't interact with the gameplay at all, but it'd probably get them in there. Rename the merged model the same as the original space.mod

Alchemist,..

Dells always are set by factory to cable select, which means neither is slave or master (it is easyier to assemble that way).  If you check the existing drive on the dell you should see that it is set to CS, do the same with the old drive and plug it in.  If the Dell drive is on CS then it will not see the other if it is in either slave or master.

I would really put some good money on your data being there.
