762 ,..

I am guessing there were other exhanges besides the public ones ?

Certainly nothing in those exchanges seems abussive

Other than our community here, giving him a hard time.

Ya know he actually advertises about Dynaverse servers that are run here on this Dynaverse.net site.  He directs folks over to here right on his main page.  I have seen it with my own eyes.

It is to bad that it has to be that community over there, ....and this one here.

Factioning,..  They are not like me therefor I must dislike them.

Like I say maybe something happened long ago I am unaware of,..

Just the reaction and banning him,....   for what I am reading seems way off from what this site is about,.. or maybe should be about.

He is no more fishing away people from this site than I am Dfly who plays in my campaigns, and others from here.

Just seems really wierd that is all,..  like twilight zone type of wierd.

I will let it be and say no more about.

Question is that starforce just something to keep folks from burning copies of the game or is it something to keep folks from getting into the files and removing content for use elswere sorry if this is a dumb question. Also isnt that Chessmess guy working for them wouldnt he have some insight into the game? he would be familiar with the community and what folks would want I have no clue what his role is there or where he is on the totem pole but you would think he could make a face  :-\ and say I dont think they will go for that guys......lol  ps. unban Josh I know the community Angel crap make's u want to step on his face  ;D but it's not his fault about the new game and like D.net he and his crew at Cuggs are trying may be pointless but still.

Starforce, IMHO. Is just bad programming. IF you use say Daemon tools. or if you copy your DVD's to your Hard Drive using third party software, starforce will not allow you to install whatever software is associated with it. Even if you do get it installed, IT has a frequency to really miss up your CD/DVD roms.

They market it as copy protection, but what happens, IS that you can't use other legitimate third party programs, as they of course don't want you to make copies of there games. (which we all know Piracy is a nono), nut they do so by breaking systems, Forcing what is allowed, and not allowed on your own pc (Privacy issue here), and of course, just being a royal pain in the ass.

I bought Space Rangers 2 for example, when it first came out, First experience I ever had with starforce, and it will be the last. I would love to play LEgacy, but If it has Starforce on it, then I'll have to pass.

You are right Kougar, that is indeed interisting.
Maybe its a good idea to wait for the first damage reports if there are any.
In my opinion thse Starforce guys are just a bunch of Blackhat hackers, dubious at best.

I don't disagree... their methods pretty much amount to blatent blackmail.

As I had pointed out to me elsewhere though... almost any game you buy has this kind of warning label on the back of the box now. I just checked my Company of Heroes box, and it even has the label.

Starforce?

OUCH !

I just got through reading about it!  Can anyone confirm the useage of Starforce in this game.  Sounds like it would be more trouble than it's worth.

I would have to agree with ya bubba if this is correct!

Also ... if some one can confirm this .....  I know of at least two more groups of players that would be interested in seeing a link to read about it!

Thanks

Well so long as you make no more then 1 or 2 installs of it and dont try to then create a backup CD/DVD for Legacy then it should be fine, Starforce or not. I'd just wish all these companies wouldnt be so extreme with their anti-piracy techniques. It just seems wrong that they would use stuff that messes up your DVD burner.. some companies are just too desperate with Anti-piracy, which it why it will be a good idea to be very careful with installing it and limit the number of reinstalls you ever have to do with Legacy. So long as you dont try to make a backup disk then you should be fine either way.

I am using Silent Hunter 3, and that programm sports this protection.
I dont have dvd burner so it never did anything to my system, i think, but i dont allow anything to hack the kernel, or if its a must i want a way to neutralize it, so i dug into the topic a while ago and found a nice tool for removing them.. you can download them one the page below.
That page further explains everything relevant arroud those drivers.

As much as anyone may or may not like Josh, I feel he was unfairly banned.
He replied to a post which mentioned Cugs etc,,, and had every right to, and even though he did advertise, it is a free community that he advertised of.
Banning him IMO was a mistake that should be rectified.

For the record, Josh was banned for admin abuse.

You guys asking for the ban to be dropped think it was for promoting CUGS? Re-read 762's post above.

From what was said/replied in this thread, and that is the only evidence in the open, how can we know otherwise?  I have read this particular thread several times the past couple of days to see if maybe I am mis-interpreting something. I still don't see it. Even after Josh and CUGS was "ranted" on, his response was even keeled.

I respect and trust Tool's reply. However, when FSD SKAREN asked if something else was said either PM or e-mail wise, no response has been given.  I have to agree with FSD SKAREN's post concerning the ban at this point.

I'm glad you respect and trust Tool's reply.  However, Skaren is not an admin.  The general population here is not entitled to know or rule on disciplinary matters.  If that's not acceptable, then page Tool.  Please don't start a campaign demanding accountabilty in the forums. Should anyone's or everyone's warnings and bannings be put on public display? I think not.

No one, including myself, is demanding anything. Just stating a certain confusion about matter. As far the "public display" part, it's already "ON DISPLAY". A simple acknowledgement to the question of an abusive e-mail or PM would have deterred further discussion on this subject.

Correct Wraith,..

All it does is make you Admins look bad that is all.

We like to look up to you and pray your taking good care of the folks that use these forms.  Including even the annoying "Starfleet Community Angel, Josh".  He does a lot for the SFC community plain and simple.

Silence is what our government gives us, vague statements of trust us has turned people off, that is lesson that is plain for all to see since the last elections.

Your correct no one expects a full accounting of what happened, but on the face of it,..  looks bad.

If you had said, yes there was more than was posted, than we would have said OK fine, nice you Admins took care of it.

As it stands now by not answering a few simple questions, you have stirred me and probably others to talk with Josh about it and find out what the story is.  Clearly your not interested in discussing it at all,..  which unfortunately,.. again looks bad.

Our worry and growing fear is that there was no other discussion, I know Josh well enough to know he is not likely to fly off the handle.

Even in his replies to antagonism from folks on this form, he kept his cool.  It is highly unlikely that he fired off an outrageous abusive PM to someone.  Maybe but seems less and less likely.

I hope that at the very least the Form Admins are discussing this situation among themselves.  Seen a lot of Admins vanish lately, we all worry there is some alien life form taking over the brains of the remaining ones, like in the Next Generation episode

Personally,..  I had that happen to me last week !

No matter what you all decide, again we appreciate the work you folks put into these forms, For the Community.

I personally say that if the admins wish to keep all the evidence and stuff secret, then it is within their rights. Same with discussing it in public and all that. It shouldnt look bad as just like with real court cases and arrests they cant just come out and discuss it. If they want to come out and give us more details then they will most likely.

Anyway, hope you are all well.

Sighs deeply...having been a proud member of XC as well as an admin over at CUGS these discussions always wound me deeply. Some of us know of long past arguments or disagreements...others of us know nothing.  The end result is that the SFC community is growing smaller every day and we have two major communities that need to be bridged somehow...I've seen tournys between the two as well as dynas we have fought together in. I for one remain impartial hoping we all get it together one day. In defense of Josh however i must state that when people have had problems with Teamspeak he has always helped out. The CUGS site proudly displays Dyna events as  well as the rare oppurtunities we have had to tourny together on Gamespy. As far as spamming "yes we know Josh by now lol".  As far as what went on behind the scenes i have seen the pm's and all i can say is tempers flare but maybe the banning should be reconsidered or at least talked about. Its a shame to see a further rift in SFC community is all...With Legacy looking like its gonna bomb and the SFC numbers dwindling we really need to pull together is all.

BTW hi to everyone!  ;)
