Proper Way to Go About Requesting A Model.
« on: November 16, 2006, 10:36:00 pm »
Hi, guys.  I'm new to the model section but I thought I'd take a gander.  I wanted to know the right way to request a ship to be made because.....well, I would sort of like a ship made.  Or at least the image of one.  So this is sort of a question on etiquette.

On a side note, the ship I had in mind is an Ambassador class that's been captured and converted by pirates.

you simply run around begging ever modeler you find till someone builds it to shut you up. ;D

Seriously just post a pic. Though I've been submitting a few off and on for 3 years and nobody has had the time so it can take a while.

A picture would be most helpful.

To build a texture a model from scratch takes a long time.
Just to redo all the textures takes time.

If the design can be done by cut and pasting existing ships, the odds are better of it getting done. In some cases were it is only adding a sticker here or there textures can be done quickly.

But either way it goes the proper way is to ask, befriend all the model makers, and hope one will take an interest in your design. The other way is to get Milkshape (for about 30 dollars) PaintShop Pro (about 80 dollars) and spend the rest of you life learing how to use them. And as the case usually goes spend months trying to do one small item, only to find you sould have used a filter or preset to do the same thing.

-GAFY?
People always said they wanted the government to listen to them and now the government is listening, taking notes and names...and coming to see you soon!

America-Not the land of the free anymore...
Its the land of the freeloaders

Remember the axiom of big government bureaucrats: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. When, finally, under the crushing weight of taxes and regulation, it stops moving, subsidize it.

I accept bribes. j/j

The best way to go about it for this case is to find an Ambassador class ship model that has already been made for SFC, get permission from the original author to use it, and than keep bumping your request on the forum. If you are not picky about quality or specific details, that is enough. If you are a little bit more picky, you need to describe exactly what you want so that they guy doing the work for you doesn't have to go back and make changes too often. The key is to get someone else to see your vision and get them excited enough about it to last the whole project. More interest =  more time spent = better model/textures.

So, Alphageek, throw some details up on this thread, give us a link to a model you would like to use, and I am sure one of us would be happy to work with you on this.

Alternate universe:  Khan was banished for preserving the peace. The Genesis device was really a super weapon and kirk had planned to use it on the klingons. Chekov found the Botany Bay and khan hijakced and killed the evil reliant crew in an effort to destroy the genesis device.    Ahh i love it :D The alternate universe rocks.

In the milkshape folder there's a file "ms3d reg code.txt". Try going in there and manually putting your reg code in.

1st check the properties to make sure it's not set to read only.

Format:
[your name]
[#####]-[######]-[#######]
Watch your upper and lower case on the letters. It matters!

Save, and then using properties, set it to read only.
When upgrading in the future the file will remain unchanged and continue working. The uninstall pgm. won't remove it because it's been changed since the installation (Don't delete your milkshape folder, just rename it to the new version before installing the update. This will also keep all of your additional plugins that you might have installed intact.)

I Hope this helps you out.

I have the current version installed (1.7.10). I've updated 3 or 4 times. I don't recall the version # I started out with.

Try creating the file yourself, and put it into your MS folder. It's just a basic .txt file.

 ;D

While we are discussing requests of Federation ships....

Why hasn't a four engined version of the Belisarius been done to make a quick FOUR warp engine, SFB style, FBB? GAFY?'s already done a retexture of her....

Ooh, err, a description, eh?  Well, mostly what I have pictured is your basic Ambassador with the two side cannons from the Orion Enforcer cruiser (see my signature just in case I got the name wrong there) on either side of the  saucer.  Possibly that central cannon from the Enforcer on either the top or bottom of the saucer.  More than likely I would want to replace the Ambassador engines with properly-sized Enforcer engines.  (I just love the way the Bussard cap lights look on that.)  And a custom pirate Registry for the hull would be a must.  Maybe some racing stripes too--some sort of "go-faster" paint job.

I would probably never use it as an actual working ship.  I would use it primarily for a signature picture.  Needless to say, anyone who made it should feel absolutely free to use/publish this ship in any way they saw fit.

(Sorry it took me so long to get back on this.  As embarrassing as it is, I actually forgot I had posted this and stumbled on it by accident this morning.)

(I know, I suck.)
