Can't delete a file....

Getting the Cyclic Redundancy check error...

Any idea how to get it thrashed and trashed off my system?

(especially since it is taking up a gig worth of space!!!)

I have already dl'd CDCheck and it gave me the awesome second opinion that yes, the file is screwed... unfortunately, it doesn't remove it... nor can it 'recover' the file...

Need more info... Windows XP?  XP Pro?

If you have a file that severely screwed, you might want to back up & re-install. 

But you might also try removing all access rights to the file (XP Pro or Win2k only) and rebooting, then add administrator rights back in and try to delete it.

ditto what B'Rabbas said and add what file is it?  Check the file properties and see if it is set read only or otherwise restricted access.  (You have tried with administrator rights?)  Try safe mode and the recovery console on the Install CD.  Have you tried the "Ultimate Boot CD"?

Worst case boot a Linux CD (or get some one who knows Linux to do it) and use Linux to delete it.

This us usually a sign of the HD being on death's door.   Backup your data as soon as you can.

I agree with DH, I would not be surprised if the drive fails soon. Having said that, do you have a second HD on this system you can boot into? If so, boot into it and delete the file off of the 1st drive. I have a small 10 gig HD with Win 2K that I can plug in and boot into just to deal with things like this.
