Resurecting an old project...
« on: November 06, 2006, 04:04:19 pm »
Well, found this on the wifes computer...mine's not hooked up at the moment, and decided it might be a good idea to finish this...someone might want it anyway. Let me know what you think.

As you heard God's message from afar;
All you had hoped for, all you had, you gave
To save mankind-yourself you scorned to save."

BTW, a little background on this.

This is a medium cruiser from the Lost Era...basically I see it as a response to added tensions after the destruction of the Enterprise-C at Narendra III. This is to be a warship, with minimal science stations. It combines the speed and manuverability of a light cruiser with the firepower of a heavy cruiser...thus the lack of science packages, as the power needed for them is routed to shields and weapons. Maybe MP, our resident storyline guru could come up with a feasable scenario for this ship. ;D (hint, hint)

Sure NP bro... You know how I love the lost era. My only issue is this.....IF the Federations biggest and baddest ship of the day (Ent-C) Ambassador Class couldn't get the job done at Narenda III in 2343. (Starfleet never found out what ship or how many ships there were that were needed to take her out) WHY would they go smaller with less firepower .
And the fact at this time you have.....

The Miranda's, Constellation's, Excelsior's, Raging Queen's, Centaur's, Shelley's and Renaissance's already in service plus you add ...............

2334 Trident Attack Frigate
2335 Freedom Defence Frigate
2336 Niagara Fast Cruiser
2342 Steamrunner Heavy Frigate
2343 Sabre Attack Frigate
2344 Cheyenne Corvette
(This does NOT included FASA designs of the era)

I don't see a design such as this coming AFTER Narenda III. Instead I suggest this........ The Wanbundu class

The Wambundu is a Federation class mentioned in canon but never seen. The Wambundu being a cross between an Excelsior and an Ambassador, a stepping stone design that is a little bit of both but not as good as either of them.

U.S.S. Drake NCC-20381 OR U.S.S. Flemming NCC-20316 (Both are canon names and regs for this class)
Wambundu Heavy Cruiser

Owner: United Federation of Planets
Class: Capital Ship
Availability: Unlimited Deployment
In Service: 2328
Out of Service: n/a
----------------------------
The Wambundu Heavy Cruiser is one of many cruiser designs developed by Starfleet contractors in an attempt to design a next generation Federation warship. Smaller than the Ambassador-class that would ultimately supercede it, the Wambundu Heavy Cruiser is designed for versatility and high modularity of design. The Wambundu’s saucer section is especially modular, allowing for easy docking and undocking of entire sections of the saucer’s hull for easy replacement or repair.

In combat, Wambundu Heavy Cruisers fair well against their Klingon and Romulan contemporaries. The Federation often stationed Wambundus in locations of less strategic importance, assigning the venerable Ambassadors to patrol the hot spots and contested sectors.

The Wambundu-class continues to serve into the modern period, although it is long in the tooth and construction of new units has long ceased. A major fleet refit of the remaining Wambundus took place in 2362, the ships’ forward phasers being upgraded. The dual heavy phaser mounts on the refitted Wambundus give the ships longer range and greater firepower and have extended their hull life an additional twenty years.

I did a cut and paste job of what I thought it might look like awhile back and it really looks alot like your ship. If ya want it it's yours bro  ;D

Cool, looks like the only thing really different is the secondary hull...I should be able to do an Excelsior-esque one for this. 8) Pretty dang close there...wonder why I never caught that one when you did it? :-\ Oh well, I got her now!! ;D
