Green,.. I did not play in it, but can you be more specific about what parts of the Clue aspect made it a worse experience for you?

Curious as the campaigns I run folks are requesting/demanding more of a storyline to them rather than the old kill thy neighbor stuff that I have done for years.

I kinda thought that RDSL's clue were the early stages of storylines for Dyna games and saw in the recent Pirate campaign that elaborated on that ideal of a grander theme for the game.

So what about the clue ideal was negative in your experience?

That was the Shadow planet killer with 12 MIRV !!

We have been playtesting it and decided that it was best left out of players hands  :)

The planet killer was a big scary thing, but it was not as spooky as it might seem.

The thing had no shields.  It was speed limited to 23 or 25, forget which.  If you traveled at speed 31 and chanrged up what weapons you could, you could eventually wear the thing down.

You had to stay away from the MIRV's.  But if you went speed 31 and the MIRV's  went speed 32, you simply had to be over range 3 from the things going away, or on a favorable angle of attack so you could bear off and be 3 away when they were launched.   Keep in mind the phaser 3 barrage or the planet killer was limited in power.  A patient attacker could simply peck away with what ever long range weapons would charge at speed 31, or even phaserboat.  Range 7 phaser 1's agains an unshielded opponent will eventually kill them.

Now, in muli ship engagements, if I could get in front of somebody as they were fighting soneone else (And that is what happened to poor Green in his precious Whitestar) then all those MIRV's were quite useful.

Attack it from range 10 and see how that goes.

Ya I think the planet killer was not meant to fight fleets alone.  Likely you would find it with other shadow ships.  I believe like all shadow ships it did have a lot of armour though even if no shields.

So far in our upcoming B5 game, the newbie players are running the B5 units (which I toned down a bit) and the old vetrans are running the SFC races under the name/guise of The League of Non Aligned Worlds.

The Earth Forces battlewagons are pretty cool too, and man can they take a pounding.

I am hoping the power of the B5 ships will offset the extreme skill descrepancy among some players.  We shall see

I had one hillarious ship.  It looked like a massive onion, and had a rop speed of 27, but had 24 Phaser 3's, and 12 medium speed MIRV racks.  It was very, very efficient at defeating bases and the really tough Shadow ships.

From May, 2004:  I was in the Bloomin' Onion, and was fighting Green's Whitestar.  Beaqrcat and others were involved, but I don't remember who.

By the way, we  lost by one point, but me and War Sears only need about another 5 minutes, and we would have won.  We had an entire sector about to fall from a deep strike, when S&B took the server down.  Rats!

I remember that fight.  Bearslayer was with me (I remember we had a considerable speed difference between his ship and mine).

Roids and T-bombs were the best (only?) defense against the Onion.

Only thing I didn't like about the server was the "Clue" game aspect of it ... hated that part ... threw the whole thing off.  Best aspect ... believe it was the first use of the "slot" ... loved that part.  Oh, and the most fantastic models I have ever seen ... perfect.

i had hoped that the slot would have been more of a hotspot then it turned out to be, but it seems that one side didn't fully grasp its value , as a whole, i thought it was a fun server, and i just loved getting the chance to use all those B5 models in a "real" campaign
I was thinking about how people seem to read the Bible a whole lot more as they get older. Then it dawned on me; they are cramming for their finals.

I thought the whole "follow the clues" thing was GREAT!
It added a different aspect to the usual "Run as many missions as you can" servers, and made the cost of the PvP battles for territory worth the sacrifice as we battled for the "clue" hexes.
And the reward was beyond our wildest dreams!  :o
I truely enjoyed the entire campaign from start to finish.
I aslo had a specatcular battle 1v3 against bearSlayer, 762, and someone else (sorry, it's hell getting old), them all hydran (2 BCH's and a heavy carrier) and me in a Victory class cruiser.
I lost in the end, but I made work like heck for it.  ;D

I still have that installer saved on a disk... ;)

I really enjoyed both of S&B's Dr. StarangeLove servers and it would be my fondest wish to see another. *hint, hint*  ;D

Just to let you folks know there is an expanded shiplist and models folder located on my website.

It rounds off and revamps the B5 races including new ships,.. the Primus Centauri DN (sorry no mass drivers :), Corvan CL, Narn double hull DN, CL, Vorlon tech white star vrs old style, many Earth Alliance Battlewagons,..  etc, and More.

Also shuttles were added to the B5 ships and other changes made

I expect that sometime down the road we will include variants for all races.

Probably we will eliminate the broken advanced G2 phaser from ships, but for now the newbies are flying them so they are perfect to keep up with the likes of fighting Dfly !!!

Site on my profile, feel free to pirate as you wish.
