ChessMess: For all the modders at LegacyMods.com and elsewhere let me begin by asking you about what tools you use for creating Legacy models?

Peter Calabria: We used 3d Studio Max version 8 and Adobe Photoshop CS.

ChessMess: Were Poly counts a concern in creating models for Star Trek Legacy?

Peter Calabria: Poly counts weren't too important, but you dont want anything higher then 5,000 polys for most ships. A really large one like the borg cube or the Romulan Warbird was around 7,000 polys. Some star base models like Rick’s DS9 were about 10,000 polys. As developers of the game we have to balance the looks vs performance and while we’d love to do 50k poly models and really get crazy on the details, gamers wouldn’t like playing a slide show.
