In America (dr. who right), it's the start of season 2. I think across the big pond they are half way through it, or are on season 3, not sure though.

Sci-Fi Channel is broadcasting Season Two of Dr Who beginning on Friday.

FYI - I do have Tivo and record these shows:

Dr. Who
Battlestar Galactica
SG-1
SG Atlantis
Heroes
Jericho (although we've already deleted the pilot episode)

We go through the recorded shows every couple of weeks and delete old ones we don't watch again, or have bought the commercial DVDs already.  We also burn a DVD occasionally if we are running low on hard disk room...

Hey Judge, what do you think of that Jericho. My wife and I started watching it, and we enjoy it so far. Of course we are wanting to know what's up with the ex-cop from St. Louis. Oh and man, what a way to end the episode with Red push pin frensy.

So far, I'm enjoying it fairly well.  The push-pin camera shot was great from a cinematic point of view.  They showed a few cities being 'pinned', but instead of zooming out to show a map full of pins (and destroyed cities), they showed him reaching into the box for more pins over and over again.  Nicely done.  :)

As for the cop from St. Louis...almost everything he's done has been within the realm of reason based on what he's told us.  He's a former cop from St. Louis who went through post-9/11 training on nuclear/bio/chemical attacks and their effects. I pretty much am willing to bet that 90% of the people on this board could given the same amount of information on radiological fallout.  Oh, and the last season of the pilot episode with the dead birds on the ground was nicely spooky.

Season 2 (or 28 in some circles) has done airing in the UK in late July/early Aug. Season 3 will be next year and there's another Xmas special by year's end. There is a spinoff later this fall that's starting.

It is season 1 for the newest Doctor Who, but season 2 for the recreated series.  Quite a surprise ending of this season.  BBC has a Christmas special coming then Season 3 starts in the spring, IIRC.

BSG is not a bad remake, but an awesome show.  Much better & more realistic than the original.

too many bad detail on the new bsg, wire comunication is a bit hold, paper is also old, glass when we have laser correction, the clothing are so 20th century, there at least 7,000 more advance that us, the look a bit past due on a lot of stuff compare to us.

Hello?  Their own wireless computers were turned against them.  So they went back to 'old school' wired stuff.

as for the rest, pretty much petty BS.... I doubt paper will ever go out of style since learning to write is pretty damn important and I could use the Star Trek excuse that they couldn't get eye correction done b/c of other issues (ala Kirk)

Last I checked we didn't have rail guns, jump drives, or Vipers.....

Last I heard they went against networked pc's because it was turned against them as Capt_Bearslayer_XC said. Also, I've yet to see a ST type  PADD or notebook, thinkpad or any other device that feels or acts as good as a piece of paper and I'm no Luddite, I've tried! lol.

Glasses, well that could be a character device to give the impression of thoughtfulness that you'd expect from Adama.

Clothing fashion generally repeats every decade on Earth according to social conditions so why not in BSG? I don't think it's particularly meant to represent a future evolution of ourselves, more like a parallel with advances in certain areas beyond what we have and maybe a bit behind in what we have too. Genre comparison, don't forget, Han Solo in a galaxy far far away a long time ago wore a waistcoat that many here would call old fashioned. Yet he had a blaster and a fast(ish) ship.... and a stinking wookie best pal.  :P

Um, you know...the original BSG was soooooo 1970's that it's not funny.  Look at their hairstyles! Look at their clothing!

The creators of the new BSG have stated several times why they went with the retro-tech on purpose, and several episodes have expanded on that.  First of all, the Cylon attack was made easier by the fact that newer battlestars and other ships HAD networked and wireless computers.  These wireless systems and interconnected systems were crashed by a viru when Bill Gates, um I mean Gaius Baltar gave them access to the network systems.  They had over a year to study the colonial codes and design a virus to take them out (or several viruses).

The Galactica was built during the original cylon war and thus designed to be RESISTANT to computer viruses.  All computers were stand-alone with no networking.  Communications were all backed up with SOUND-POWERED phone systems.  There were no automated landing systems or anything else the Cylons could use to implant a virus.  Further, Adama kept the Galactica in that condition.  As commanding officer he had standing orders against networking systems, etc. and he enforced them.

Now if you look at the Pegasus, which was a newer design of ship, you'll see more of your 'advanced tech'.

Nope, they don't have 'lasers' or other inefficient weapon systems.  Let's face it, the amount of power it takes to use a laser against a hardened target is not worth the energy/cost ratio.  Instead it's easier to put a projectile out there that blows away the target for a lot less energy.

Also, 7,000 years is not accurate as far as time relation...it's been two thousand years since the Colonials left Kobol and founded the Twelve Colonies.  Yep, a measly two millenia.

Now did the 13th tribe (earth) leave before or after them?  That's not yet been discussed.

Oh man, Judge, you need to give me a call sometime. You would not believe the Upset I made on another board supprting Gay Marriage. <cough Hannity Cough>

Anyway,

Regarding BSG, I didn't like It either when IT first came out, what sold me, was during the first season, SciFI did a marathon, where I had a day of BSG to watch. It's one of those shows that when taken as a whole Really provides. Trust me, I hated it when it first came out, But IT grows on you, and Is Entertaining in It's whole.

Is It as good as Groovy Groovy Groo on the Venture Brothers? No , But then again, when was the llast time you saw Ted Bundy, and Patty hearst in a cartoon?

Stephen the Venture Brothers fan.

Tonight's BSG had ALL the hot-button topics.  The opening scene where Starbuck kills the Cylon Leoben with a shank and then goes back and eats her steak dinner was priceless...

Robert actually screamed at the television that she should kill the little half-cylon girl as well...and we got into a debate about Tigh's position regarding the 'resistance'.

Just loved Dean Stockwell's character as well as Cavil, the Cylon priest who doesn't believe in God.  Every time he said "god" he lifted his hand in those little quotation marks.  That was a lovely touch...as well as Lauren Roslin's two great scenes...The first where Baltar says he acts in accordance with his conscience and she says "That's good to know" (or something like that...implying he doesn't have one) and then later with Zarek...

Zarek:  Did you really try to steal the election last year?

Roslin: (pauses a beat) Yes

Zarek:  I wish you would have...

Roslin:  So do I

I love the contrast of how democracy in action screws the human race and the failed attempt to steal an election might have saved humanity a lot of heartache...yet it was the morally right thing to do.  Moral quandaries are so fun to play with in Science Fiction.  When is the moral thing the wrong thing or the immoral thing the right thing?

Even makes me re-think a few real world things from time to time...
