Topic: Dizzy, Bartok,.. shiplist ?

In playing with the RDSL shiplist I am having trouble renaming the ships.

I used shipedit (ShipEdit39902b) to rename a White Star to > Mimbari White Star in the full name section of ship edit.

Saved it and when I review ships,  it now only shows ADS+ -  ???   The ??? is where the full name would be.

I examined the shiplist with Excel and see the full Mimbari White Star name listed but it does not want to display.

I have some suspicions but wondered if you could give me the quick answer as to what is up.

I think I got it at least a solution that works,.. it does not solve the ??? issue

I can change the class name to get Mimbari in there and can for now ignore the full name.

It still has not solved the ??? issue but at least gets the race name up in the description.

Have no idea if this is what you looking for but in your assets folder in commom settings there is a GF file for ship names. There is also one in Meta assets Server profile Single player.Hope this helps

U have to change the shipnames file.

If you want them to show up in game, you have to edit your strings file  (/assets/strings).

Scroll about half way down in the strings file and you will see what I am talking about.   It looks like ths:

Is that what you wanted?

If you want shipnames to show up, you need to edit your shipnames file.  As an example:

|F-BCG|1751 Kirov
||1800 Matsumo
||1801 Gettysburg
||1802 Charleston
||1803 Cleveland
||1804 Dayton
||1805 Guirierre


yours would be :

|?-ADS+|whatever name you want here.   The ? being the race slot you are inserting the ship into...

Ahh thanks jeff. Strings is what I meant to say.  I never bother to do that with my servers... Its a lot of work and I I did it once and never got any thanks for it. I then tried recruiting someone to do it for the next server... and never got anyone to do the job. So I didnt do it after that and no one ever complained about the ???'s so I just said f*ck it and continued on my merry way, lol. So Skaren, if it bothers you so much to the point where it must be done, at least I'll say thanks in advance and you're welcome anytime to do it on my servers. hahaha

I thought of the saying "F it" too, but I have some newish players who have not seen B5.

When they goto look up their ships, if I don't stick the race name in there somewhere they will get more confussed.

That RDSL shiplist is already confussing, and that was the base this thing has grown off of.

Dizzy I will pass on that one.

Sorry I missed this post until today - yupper, strings.txt will handle the ??? in the schip ui, very concise and exacting walk-through Capt. Jeff 

I've never tweaked the shipnames file though it would be cool to do so...  Also - there's the model.siz folder, if you're wanting to scale the models up or down.  This is a tricky one that I've had only modest success with.  There're two entries for each ship one for the mod and one for the break mod...  Would love to see a write-up on that one if anyone has a useful link 

I was gonna point out the "n vs. m" issue as well - but, well I told ya I was late coming to this post 

btw - I know what you mean about the RDSL shiplist Skaren, with the alliance and coalition merged into Fed/Klinks it gets a little confusing.  There was also some duplication in the Mirak shiplist -- copies of shadow ships from the lyran one... 

what traps me everytime I play with it I think.... ok, what nasty alien can i put in the empty slots, should the vorlons have their own slot - how can i get the Andromedans in???

It's never ending fun but also a potential never ending headache lol....
