I recently sent an email to the official website for Tim Russ, the actor who played Tuvok of “Star Trek: Voyager.” I wanted to give him a heads up that I had revived his voiceover work in Elite Force 2 to make him a co-star (with Patrick Stewart) of BORG WAR, my feature-length animated fan film.
BORG WAR, of course, is a machinima project (made with SFC3 and EF2) and my reuse of the game voiceover clips is specifically allowed by the game license as a “new game material.” In essence, BORG WAR is an alternative cinematic for the game. However, I was curious about what Russ might think of the movie, since he has some of the best lines.
Anyway, after trading a couple of emails with Russ’s webmaster and sending on URLs for all nine episodes of Borg War, today I got a note from Russ thanking me for the links and telling me that, in his opinion, Borg War is (and I quote) “very cool!”
This means a lot to me because I’ve always been impressed with Russ’s work and felt that he did a great job making Tuvok a memorable character that captured the subtle sadness that is the essence of the Vulcan zeitgeist. It’s also a real rush to have one of the original series actors, in a certain sense, “endorse” my work.
Just in case you’re curious, the currently-released episodes of BORG WAR can be viewed or downloaded at:
