I found a very cool map of the fed and klink border. Be nice if the whole quadrant map was available.

The only 2 things I didn't care for with the STSTC system FASA had was how biased towards the Federation the ships were and how shields were handled.

Our house rules always allowed for a capacitor for phasers (like SFB/SFC) and that base shields were one free point of power in each shield facing.

Still, I will check this out when I get some time.  Babysitting the GF after having 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed yesterday.  (I am just checking in here at the house & she doesn't have internet ::) )

As usual, playing the bad guys... that Andor class cruiser is a PAIN IN THE NECELLES!  I finally got disgusted and switched to a Rommy Z1 battleship and beat it.  @*@&! Feds.

Haven't been able to beat the Andor in the L9. It's a BS matchup.  So I did D7 vs Constitution Mk II.  That was more reasonable, however it really took an AI boo-boo for me to win in the D7.  The movement system is goofy.  It's way too easy for your enemy to keep his front arc weapons on you.  I tried a number of times to get behind the fed.  It was nearly impossible.

The Andor's strength in that game is the SPEED and how low the weapons power is... only takes 8 points to power all eight photons (granted they are 'little' photons) and with a 3 to 1 move rate... it can FLY across the board...

It's a very odd system all around.  Took a Rom Warbird against a Connie Mark II.   It was pretty much luck if I could get into range to fire the plasma.  I am sure that a human opponent would not hang out so long in my good firing range.  SFB is far superior to this system.  The chance to hit stats are a little bizzare with feds vs klinks.  It seems that the klink needs to be in close to hit well but fed gets much better hit stats at those ranges.  Not a very balanced system.

It is not balanced b/c it is not a 'game' per say... but a 'simulator' and don't forget there is a heavy fed bias as the RPG that the simulator was part of, was primarily made to play Feds.... so yes, it is going to be tough for any other race to beat them.

But notice also that the CE (combat efficiency) balances things out.  Sometimes you have to take several klinks or roms to beat a fed ship.

Have you notice that the sensors are very easy to get taken out in this game?

I have to say that at least once every other battle my sensors get knocked out.

I used to play the simulator box set as a pert of an RPG campaign. It was good because it was simple and fast. If you needed to resolve some ship-to-ship combat within the course of role playing, you could do it. all you had to do was whip out the maps and counters and you were good to go.

after playing it a while, my players and I did get a little fed up with the pro Federation slant to the ships, but hey, we just changed the stats too make the Romulans, Klingons, and especially the Gorn better.

The computer version from SlightlySilly is lots of fun for me. Its easy to design your own ships. I even make my own game counters and they look pretty good. It has some problems though. The computer opponent has no clue about handling cloaked ships and, (my biggest complaint) is that you can't save a game and quit ion the middle of a game.

as for the STTCS vs SFB debate, well their both OK with me, but for something you can do quickly on the fly in support of an RPG, the simulator is the best!
