SGO Seven will Start Next weekend!
« on: September 21, 2006, 02:37:29 pm »
J/K!!!  ::braces for negative karma::

Wanted to see what peeps thought about alliances. They are hugely important because not only of player numbers, but what empires border what empires will affect enemy and friendly AI and traditional enemies are the most balanced... Going to start working on the map now so I wanted to get an idea what the players think about this.

You'll notice one option has the F+I. I am hesitant to give one side both PPD and Photons, but you'll notice the Hydrans on the other side. Generally you will always see the Klinks vs Feds, Lyrans vs Hydrans and Gorn Vs the Roms on every side except one.

Well the last option combining F & I leaves the alliance  with only 1 3rd rate droner race,  which more than offsets ppd and photons and makes it pointless since hex flipping is still the primary concern.

What Tobin said. You can't have K and Z on the same side unless you give the Feds a better flipper.

I can if I use a static map that only changes via DB editor based on ship attrition.

Can you translate that into English?

Record disengagements and kills how?  Thanks for the translation.  I think it will be wildly unpopular but I think it is a great idea.  It would work well with a no-sides concept.  Log on.  Choose the side that is lacking players and play on that side.  Good luck.  You're gonna need it for this idea.

Would have been a neat idea back when numbers were higher and more constant through the day.

Not everyone plays this game for PvP,   this would suck the fun of of that for them.

What about my whacky idea Geese's thread?  How hard would that be using the DV editor?

Hmmm,

Interesting idea - sounds kind of like Skaren's campaigns or the "dyna" hybrid sort of.  Honestly, I see a decent into a quagmire of rules coming.  I love the efforts to balance the tactical /strategic shortcomings of the dynaverse, but this would ostricize most players who can't afford a nitely commitment of several hours....

I do like PvP, but i see all sorts of gang bang issues arising w/this type of setup.  You and your three pals are on, flying missions having fun but not doing anything for your empire --- then, a lone enemy logs on...... ::)

Yes Bartok, it does sound more like my campaigns only being run by a computer instead of human.

It is the real time constant playing that is most at odds with the style I run.  That is incompatible with my turn based games.

I have thought of this issue you folks have with the players not being even and such, and to be honest I have no clue how you would fix it.  Leptons Geese ideal seems interesting but I do not play Dyna enough to tell if the complaints against it are valid, so I have appropriately stayed out of the conversation.

I am glad that as a Ref I can set even teams and nations at the game start as well as realistic and interesting fleets that are flown.  Yet I am very jealous of Dynas ability to handle the high numbers of players, that would break my games.

I see down the road a merging of the style of campaigns I run and the Dyna ones.  It will become more a necessity when the player pool shrinks over time.  Lets face it when the game is 15 years old the player pool will be smaller.

I must say when the game is 15 years old you're probably right about the player pool size, but I'm crossing my fingers that we'll all be pleasantly surprised that it will stay relatively intact.  I think i've seen u post that you'll be playing till ur in nursing homes.....  I'd love to see a dynaverse assisted living community, maybe the condos could be shaped like shuttlecraft  ;D
