Cant install SFC3 onto an XPS 600 with DVD player HELP ! ! !
« on: February 04, 2006, 04:06:11 pm »
I just bought a new PC and cant install my SFC 3 Game on it .  I get the error message " could not load the DLL library D:\setup\rsrc\prompt.dll  error performing image operation."  Is this because I have a DVD instead of a CD player? IF so what do I do ? HEEEELLLLPPPP ! ! !

Is It a legit Copy? I only ask because of the image thingie. You might need to Grab the newest Drivers for your DVD player. I've installed SFC3 many times using mine, so that should not be a problem.

I'd check out the Manufacturer for newer drivers. IS SFC3 the only program your having Problems with?

yes it is a legitimate copy. I purchased it new when it came out years ago, still have the box , book and reciept. I have installed it many times with no problems. I have no idea why it wont install on this computer, it should have the correct DVD drivers, as I just bought it and had it custom built by Dell.

That is odd indeed. Does the DVD drive work with your other software? The only other thing I can think of is It possibly be a scratch on the disk.

Does your system read the disk at all? If It does, you may be able to make a copy to your Hardrive and Install from there. I normaly don't approve of the use of Proggies like Daemon Tools, but In this case, It might be needed. It will allow you to make a Virtual CD player on your system.

If I can think of any other solution, I'll get back with you.

Check your disk for any scratches.

I believe you can use Alchol 120 to make a virtual drive, and go from there.

If you do have a scratch on your disk, take a little car wax and gently wax the cd then polish it with a very fine cloth... then burn a copy of it quick!  I've done this with customers cds in the past with pretty good success.
