Just saw overhauled Star Trek
« on: September 16, 2006, 04:10:56 pm »
Well i have just finished watching Balance Of Terror the first overhauled TOS show and i must say the did a good job with giving the Enterprise her CGI facelift. Same with the Romulan BoP. There were only 3 scenes in the show showing the Enterprise and the Romulan BoP but i must say they both looked great. The Enterprise was darkened just a little bit and the Rom BoP had aztecing on her dorsal hull and was also darker in color scheme. The weapons were more realistic the Enterprise phasers were pulse like firing 3 per charge and the romulan plasma torp looked better and even dissapated better than in the unaltered version. Now anyone else who has seen the episode please post your thoughts as we will like to hear your opinions on what Paramount has done to TOS

Hey,

Yeah, I just crawled out from under a rock... but what are you talking about?  What is an overhauled TOS?  Is paramount remaking all the TOS shows?

Curious...

Paramount is digitally remastering all TOS episodes including new improved ships via CGI and depth in scenes such as orbiting a planet and terrain among other things

What station were you watching it on?

Was it the SciFi channel?

I can't seem to find a listing for the NY/NJ area though I know it's supposed to air this weekend.

Must admit my QT plugin was borked but the other 30 sec clip looked cool.

I missed it because the local station decided spontaniously to show a late night movie when they said they were going to show Star Trek earlier in the week.  They bumped it foreward an hour, so I got to see the last 15 minutes of it.  I'm pissed...but since they are going to re-show 'Balance of Terror' in two weeks...I'll live with it... for now...

I got it and recorded it on my TIVO.  Quite a nice facelift with nothing that was too jarring.  If you notice, the picture was a LOT sharper and clearer than I remember it being in a long time.  The colors were more vibrant as well.  I think those improvements have gotten short shrift as compared to the updated special effects, which do look wonderful as well.

Maybe I'll record them and put them on DVD...the commercials are still in there, but it's easy to fast forward past them...

The scene where the Roms dumps a nuke into space and tilt the Enterprise on its side was well done - overall a very good job.
