SS3 then SGO7.

Somewhere in between Bartok Hexx and DH are all talking about servers themselves. So exactly what's up I dunno.

I have 2 ideas that I want to do soon using basically the same MOD/setup  . . .

-  Federation & Empires:  Setup should be self-explanatory
- ISC Invasion:  Again, should be self explanatory.   Late Era ISC versus everyone but Jackie Chan Style, they fight one enemy at a time :)

I don't know when, I',m very busy at work and spend most of my night times with this game listengin ti people bicker about minutia instaed of beiong productive.

Who'd thunk that Star-castling was the root of all evil . . .

What would be productive as I have no idea what might or might not need to be done?

System Specs:

Dell Dimension E521
AMD64x2 5000+
2G DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3

For any server you need:

-  The Mod:  More or less done, could have done in a day if I stop taking people's input and just go with my judegment
-  The Map:  I suck at this  but I acquired a great one based on the standard SFB map that might do fine.
-  The Missions:  This is in flux right now with ED, TG,, and Karnak working on Warp disengagement.
-  The VCs:  can be a simple land-grab or can be much more complicated.  I suck at this also
-  The Rules: Can steal these from Dizzy :)
-  The Hardware:  I got this :)
-  Time to think about stuff.   I ain't got this.

I see what you are saying but I wasn't really proposing to create a whole server in my own image.  If there is something I can do, let me know.  If it is within my abilities and knowledge, I will give it a shot.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Fed + Allies VS Pirates server.  It would be sort of a cops and robbers kind of thing.

Nice break down DieHard ;)

- The Mod:  I've tinkered with forever, been playing with a Bab5 kinda thing in my head - balancing is impossible... got distracted by my need to play + fiddling with importing ships
- The Map: This is a hard one too, I'd love to see the one you've got based on the standard SFB map tho!
- The Missions:  while the warp stuff could be fun, the Evildave missions from SG06 seem nice!
- The VC's: Here's where I suck, VC/Rules go hand in hand and the more complex, the less a server admin actually gets to play (imo) and has to moderate..
-The Rules: see above
-The Hardware: I got this too - at least it's worked before for a server that I kept up for a couple month w/minimum downtime (yeah, it's a laptop  ;)
only thing now about hardware is, we've all become (i believe) incredibly addicted to the OCI and i can't offer that
-Time to think about stuff:  I have "some"of this, but the complexity that all the above take on spirals you out of control.... and you never get something going....

That being said, when I have put up a server, it's classified as a "fun" server, which to some means not serious - though i don't know what i think about that.  I honestly like really long running / steady state servers (a la the Forge) to be up and available to the community.  Even when "serious" campaign servers are being run which have the specific goals/vc's involved...

waxing rhapsodic here....

Cheers to All

We need some firm and fast rules on what we all want to see in warp disengagement.

For example, just use Huge Maps and give players ability to warp-out at FTL speeds (ie. 3000) to disengage; basically, replacing the "taco-belling across the red-line" tactic.  Or, as an added feature, have missions that can do fast sub-light stuff (ie. speeds 125, 500, 1000) at yellow alert.

Once that is figured out the mission packs can be updated accordingly for dyna play.

It would be nice, but that means one of two things. Either pirates double up and occupy empire slots or the empire/cartel layer interaction has to be fixed.

Seriously DH get it in gear already LOL

sorry couldn't help it... Always seems when I get time off of work there's no server.. Thanks for that! lol

Kidding...

However I am getting a little bored over here... Where are my old buddies ( aka everyone who knows me well enough to want to kill me. I'm itching to fly again.

Forge is fun and all but I never could stomach X-tech.

Speaking of the Forge. Who's server is that? Any chance these features (atleast some) will be included in the next server. Really quite fascinating I'm quite enjoying all the features... Just not the x-tech lol

It's Bonk's for testing things like SQL serverkit and the like. Unfortunately, Bonk is MIA due to a new job in the middle of nowhere.

The middle of noone? That doesn't make much sense, Alpha hon. Care to elaborate?

Could be. Knowing Sarah from some long IM convos, telecommuting would be ideal for her.

Actually I work in a busy office.  The "no one" part comes from the fact that my cubicle is smack-dab in the middle of the Financial Aid Department of my Division.
