K-F6 What size?
« on: March 27, 2007, 04:29:53 am »
I'm working on a TMP era F6 battle frigate. What size should it be? Keep in mind it has a crew compliment of about 260, not the "dozen, or so" of the b'rell. The B'rell is 109 meters and the K'tinga is 214. I'm thinking about 143 meters (2/3 that of the K'tinga). It's not that much bigger than the B'rell at that size, but a much larger crew. I'm considering also that probably the B'rell was never intended to be crewed by so few. The "dozen or so officers" were probably a special ops. squad that beamed aboard to steal the Romulan Bird o' Prey that was the intention of the original script. When the script was changed, late into production, the minimal crew compliment became the standard crew. Any oppinions?

Here's a pic. It's an Atolm design. 8)
If Romulans aren't cowards, then why do they taste like chicken?

It's 3 wings.

The B'rel (and releatives) are anywhere from 80m up to 800m depending on what source you choose to use. The SFB Klingon F6 frignought is a three nacelled ship ..........

I agree with F_W, though the mesh is fantastic, the concept isn't. Basically every configuration you could think of involving extra wings added to the B'rel design has been done. Single wing, X-wing, cross or +  configuration, three wings, attack elevation, cruise elevation. Extra disruptors and the ilk. Not a good candidate for an F6 upgrade/refit, unless it's just a label on a weapon configuration. The ships look nothing alike. Considering the F6 is just D7 parts, I would think using Vor'cha parts (though no more believable) would logically follow the pattern. But I do like the mesh  ;D very clean and compact. + 1 for the mesh.

I realise that the b'rel has been shown lots of sizes on screen. Even the same ship in the same movie. I was just looking for input on the size of a ship with a crew of 260. I know it'd need to be bigger than the b'rel but smaller than the k'tinga. 143 meters is 2/3 the length of the k'tinga, which would work out with the f6's movement cost. Would a ship of that size handle a crew of 260? Klingon ships aren't exactly luxury liners. The concept wasn't the question. lol
Thanks,

According to my KA manual the Klink qa'HoS light cruiser with a length of 198 meters has a crew of 250 so if I had to guess I'd say no.

I tend to agree, given the comparison, it sounds like you'll either have to shrink the crew to less than that of the K''inga or increase the scale of this design to accomodate your crew - and Klingons aren't exactly small in stature.
