Mirror Universe Imperials
« on: September 06, 2006, 04:32:23 pm »
Okay, I admit it, I’m sick of TNG/Post TNG Trek and all this TOS nostalgia makes me yearn for a TMP renaissance! Somebody convert the SFC1 missions to SFC: OP please! Oh, my corner of the late TMP universe is a blast, LOL…

Here’s a peek at the Late TMP Era Mirror Universe Imperial ships I have been working on. I’m using them as part of a 1:1 model replacement in a TMP era version of Centauri Vaughn’s TNG Mission set for SFC: OP.

I’ve been doing things like using the Romulan Melak by WZ45 vs. a retextured WZ45 Lexington Class of mine [instead of the Ambassador class] for “Tomorrows Enterprise.” I’ve even replaced the Galaxy Class with WZ45’s Ulysses class and fought against K’teremny and Saber Class ships to save my custom Lexington class in “Yesterday’s Enterprise.”

Right now I’m imagining for the TMP era that we can replace the Bajoran Wormhole with a stabilized or temporarily accessible Tholian Spatial rift and substituting DS9 for an Imperial Space Station. I’ve replaced the Jem Hadar with the Imperial forces and added Klingon Academy Tholians [Darkdrone/Terradyhne] instead of Cardassians and the Klingon Academy Sha’ Kurians [Terradyhne] instead of the Breen.

I plan to replace the Borg in the Borg missions with Wicked Zombie’s TMP era Andromedans.

Now follow my train of thought here. After the lost Constitution class USS Defiant ends up in the hands of the Imperial forces, it stands to my thinking that the Mirror Universe Imperials would advance their technology but I think it still should be familiar looking but not entirely identical to our own.

I personally use the Akyazi [Akula subclass version two by P81] as my FDX and the USS Churchill [version three retextured by GAFY?] as my FCX. This frees up the Araxes FDX and the Excalibur FCX by P81 to be used as Mirror Universe ships. Add to them the Justice Class Excalibur kitbashes for a DN/BB/BC [with GAFY?’s textures] and the Araxes variants and you have the makings of a fast, modular fleet. The logistical advantages would be awesome as repair/replacement parts would be easier to come by but you would trade off some mission effectiveness capabilities. I imagine such a fleet would be devoid of heavy carriers for instance but every ship in this fleet could deploy a small amount of fighters/shuttles to make up for it. Since the Suliban and later the Romulans would be conquered their ships should have cloaking devices of some type as a standard feature. Note the locations of the older looking P81 textures, I consider this to be armored locations for this fleet.

Now I really do like P81’s Odyssey Class and the variety of kitbashes related to it but I would use them as tough secondary follow on ships that are used to keep conquered areas submissive. The TMP Excalibur CX based fleet screams speed and first strike capability. That was the feel I got from the ENT Mirror Universe episodes; it was all about speed and striking first when the enemy was unprepared for them.

Now, assume that a year or two later after the TOS USS Defiant and its variants begin to be mass-produced, the Imperials conquer the Tholians on their side of space and several years later as the Imperial technology improves and they figure out a way to reopen the rift. As part of the Imperial invasion plan, the Tholian slaves in turn become the vanguard of the invasion of our universe through Tholian Space. Now it makes sense that it’s a Mirror/Imperial Base [See my simple retexture of the Torre base pictured below] instead of a captured Tholian base given the life support requirements of the Tholians vs. humans. Yes, I used a Tholian Starbase from Taldren’s Galaxy at War pack but it never really made much sense. If the life support for the human occupants of the Tholian station were battle damaged or sabotaged, good-bye carbon based life forms… Enviroment suits will only last so long too. Besides if we use the Imperials instead of the Jem Hadar they’d need a defensible base of operations.

Last but not least, the Imperials should have an edge over the Tholians somehow. I haven’t worked that out yet. Heck, it could be that the Imperials made the Tholians extinct in their universe and grew crystal ships themselves based on Tholian technology as part of their ruse against the Tholians in our universe. Remote or robot controlled Tholian ships or even Imperial crewed Tholian ships maybe? However, imagine the culture shock if Imperial controlled Tholians were to encounter the Tholians in our universe. I imagine it could be something akin to the SFB Tholians meeting up with their lost fleet; only there might not be a peaceful assimilation process this time. However, as Tholians don’t think like us it’s hard to say. It could be that they view the Imperials as being in line with their SFB philosophy of “let’s you and him fight” in that the Imperials are fighting their enemies for them in exchange for something they want. They could for instance cooperate with the Imperials as a means to expand the Holdfast into areas they desire but aren’t able to do themselves militarily; such as [according to Klingon Academy anyway] deeper into Klingon space into mineral rich areas that carbon based life forms aren’t able to use anyway. Once these areas were “controlled by the Tholians, they would defend them. The only catch for this whole thing is how to deal with their “neutrality”.

Just some thoughts I’ve been having. Feel free to flame away ;)

;D Here are some more pics of WIPs...

My problem is there aren't enough GAFY? style Araxes/Excalibur saucer textures because the 4 nacelled Apache kitbash [third pic down] and the Araxes [top picture] herself don't have the yellow phaser banks on the saucer.... Hence the current saucer textures are uniform but odd without phaser bank textures on the non-Justice BB kitbashes.

You should colour shift the blue to either shades of dark gray or red. Other than that the phasers could be added by Textures but it doesn't look as good as kitbashing them onto the hull.
