There's no denying it, even though the PlayStation 3 may be the most late, most expensive, and most, um, well ventilated of this this generation's consoles, Sony's also going out of their way to make the device appear as versatile as possible. So hell, if your machine is going to burn energy when not in use, best to put that power suck toward a good cause, right? Stanford and Sony have announced that PlayStation 3s will be able to participate in Cure@PS3, making gamers' consoles massively parallelized computing nodes for the Folding@Home project. (You're on Engadget's Folding@Home team, right?) Right up top is a taste of the eye candy that awaits those who dedicate their Cell processor to stamping out cancer with the Stanford crew, but the veneer doesn't stop there: click on for a slew of sexy new PS3 pics that just surfaced.

*sigh*

For personal and cynical reasons I don't want to go in, I think's too late.  I'll settle for the DS or Wii, should I be interested in moving on past free games and games I already have (gathered from the 1990s-to-2000/01)

Don't get me wrong, sounds like nice news, but again, for personal reasons... *shrug* And aren't there any other good ways to help cure cancer?

I need to be (metaphorically) hit with sticks and stones now. *insert a scene where I hit myself in the head repeatedly here*

LOL, Don't sweat it, I look at the price, and think... HMM. FF13 would be the only game I'd play, I just now have my VHS collection done, and need to worry about DVD's, what the hell am I gonna do with Bluray.

There is a rumor though that the Wii might be $170.00 US when It's released. That'll put a hurt on the competition.

Where Squeenix goes, I go.

I'll wind up getting a PS3 for FFXII; and probably KHIII; and a few other RPGs, but not at startup.  Distributed computing or not.

The WII on the otherhand.... i'll be getting one of those on day one hopefully.

I can play FFXII on PS2 when it comes out...why get a PS3???

There's only ONE reason I'm considering a PS3...though I can play the game on PS2...Marvel Ultimate Alliance will have killer graphics (even more so on the PS3 than on the 360) waaaay above all other systems on the PS3.

LOL beat me to it. I'll always be a PC junkie, but ever since I was about 5, I've had some console around the house. Heck just last night I was playing Final Fantasy Tactics on a PS1 emulator.
