Are you the host and is one of the connecting players on the LAN and the other on the WAN? (i.e. Do two of you have the same public IP address?) Is it just the one player who cannot connect? If so are their firewall and/or router settings correct?

we have isolated it down to me. we have tryed IP, and at gamespy, both ways i can host or connect ip ways. eather way i can only be in with me and 1 other person. we tryed all ways we could. i have a portforwarding on my router and it has a gamespy and starfleet command, and empires at war sfc2 service built in and i have tryed with all on or one at a time. i tryed a few of our own ones too. the router is a Westell 6100 dsl modem/router in one. there is no firewall on in the router or my computer eather. I am playin with some old timers that do know what there doin too. i used to play sfc1 at mplayer way back. OP is a fun game and i would'nt mind playin with more then one other player. a list of ports or any idea's would be great........  thanks for any help you can

If you are using port forwarding (which is preferred), ensure your LAN configuration is static (with an IP address outside the range of the LAN DHCP server on the router or just disable the DHCP server on the router if no one else is using it), and ensure you are not using the DMZ as well (only one or the other), do not use the built in services if you have manually configured your port range forwarding, also ensure that your router is accepting pings from the WAN, also disable any UPnP functionality on the router. Ensure you have downloaded and read the full users manual for your modem/router if one is available.

The ports required are 2300-2400 TCP&UDP and 47624 TCP. (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/240429) (OP uses the DirectX 7 directplay interfaces which are still supported by later versions of DirectX)

Are you running WindowsXP? If so, ensure that the Windows firewall is disabled.

If you're still stuck I can look for your router manual and dig a little deeper. (but would need the exact model number)
