U.S.S. Star Union has been completed. After nearly a year of design and redesign, Major Racal and I have completed this ship. D/L her here at Battle Clinic

After the General War, the Federation continued to modernize it's Dreadnought fleet. A new design, the DNG was constructed and had quite a few improvements over the DN+, the Federation's 'Improved Dreanought'. Boasting addional firepower, 4 more Phasers on the DNG, 6 for the DNH, adding drone racks (3 more on the DNG, 5 more on DNH), Phaser 3's in 360-degree arcs (2 on DNG, 3 on DNH), and more shields. In addition to the extra mounts described above, the DNH picked up 2 more phaser 1's in the 360-degree arc and several more system and power upgrades. The improvements to the DNH Class came about on stardate 2278. The 1st ship to be refitted to this class was the MK II Federation Dreadnought, U.S.S. Star Union. And here she is.

Nice model. I like the insignia on the saucer.

For realism's sake the dorsal sections should intersect with the impulse deflection crystals. Presumably the ship has two warp cores?

Textures are nice, but I'm just not digging the v neck. Otherwise very cool.

It does have two warp cores. But one is in the saucer. There are 2 impulse deflection pathyways. One in each neck. If you look at the detached saucer section you will see the two there. One is primary the other is redundant.

It's a love hate thing. It's based on the Ulysses. The way it works is pretty solid. Single neck pylons are too spindly and weak on most FDN's to support stress and damage properly. Vneck on this one just makes sense. Some will like other wont.

I just had to pop in again to say what an awesome model this is.

Any thoughts on tweaking the mesh for use as a replacement for the stock SFC2 DN/DN+?

I consider the DN/DN+ to be TOS era design. So this ship is to those what the Constellation class is to the Enterprise class. As an upgrade, there are no plans for an earlier model. I am fond of TOS designs for those. Depending on the popularity of this model with the players, there is a BB variant based off this model being planned.

I can see the TOS concept, I get ya.  I guess actually I was just asking about turning this ship (which immediatly went into my spec file DNG/DNH slot) into a standard Ulysses class so all my DN models look alike.

Why do all that when you could simply download the original Ulysses model that the Star Union was built from?

Totally shameless plug, obviously...

What have you guys thought about the Drone Bays?

And Major Racal and I are thinking of a BB version of this with twin hulls and 4 warps. What do you guys think? I'm starting to brainstorm some ideas for how to put it together. I think the textures and bits and pieces would look pretty well on a BB.
