What model D-Link? Did you try the DMZ? Did you try bypassing the router altogether?

If its a DI-604 RevE and you cannot bypass it:

Oh wait, did you do a full install of OP+4 (which includes the directory server fix)?

Hey Jinn long time no see. ;D

On a serious note though, it would be just better to bypass the router all together.

that is the way I do it.

and a WELCOME BACK!!! We missed you!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

I note that you say you have configured your  router and that people are telling you to use the DMZ.  I do not know if things are different with a D-Link router.  However, with a Linksys router the one thing that I have noticed is that you do NOT want to configure your router to forward the proper ports AND use the DMZ at the same time.  It doesn't seem to like that.

Do either or.

Or simplest of all, plug your machine straight into the wall when you play SFC.  That saves about 100 headaches.

I used to have a D-link myself...

DMZ is the only way to go, the port forwarding was nigh impossible for me to decode.  Partially because it didn't intuitively allow ranges...

Also, for the best results with port forwards / DMZs on any router, set up a static IP address for the PC and the router, so that you'll computer will always be the one on the forwarded ports.  I vaguely recall that stuff's around here somewhere...

That's what I ended up doing. Maybe it's just Linksys, but with a router, getting on the D2 was all but impossible if it was plugged into my computer.

The D2 works fine with any router capapble of port range forwarding or has a DMZ if your LAN is configured statically (which it is not for most "plug and play" router users, one must read manuals and understand basic networking concepts to configure a LAN statically, which is much rarer than you'd think), and if you disable UPnP, allow pings from the WAN and disable built in firewalls. However this is pretty much beyond most users. (there is something drastically worng with the router market, if I could solve it I'd be rich). I think the growing problem relates to the desire for wireless home LANs so that routers are far more popular than they used to be and in the hands of people who do not really know how to use them. (Not to mention the whole issue of wireless unreliability...)

Linksys, USR, Dlink, Zyxel... they all work. PEBKC.

As I mentioned above, it is probably easiest to bypass the router altogether if you want to play on the D2. That way you do not have to think about it. (except you may have to release the WAN DHCP lease at the router before attempting to obtain one for your PC's network card, depending on your ISPs DHCP server configuration).

Hmmm... maybe its time I started developing the "NetMagic" box... a router for the masses. It will do everyhting for you, make coffee, play My Melancholy Baby and automatically configure your entire network constantly anticipating your every need...  :)  Seriously.

Oh, so that's why it was the most cheapest router at Best Buy.  :smackhead:

When my LinkSys BEFSR41 router died, I went with  D-Link DI-520 because I wanted to try out new stuff, and the LinkSys in combination with Windows messenger services caused havoc for my conn. for 1 #*#*#*year!!  :cuss:.

I was not until Frey made a post about disabling the Messenger net svcs. that my conn. cleared up.

I run the DLink on DMZ and have no conn. issues which really enhances the gaming experience on the dyna.

They're not doomed, you arrogant bastard, they're trying to hit the blackjack tables. Well... yeah... I guess they are doomed. But that's beside the point!

I'm loading up a starship with a tourista version of Greyhound and filling it with WW2 and Korean War veterans. When we find your ship, we're all hitting the craps tables. You'll be bankrupt in an hour! (Insert evil laugh here)...
