Help - Cloaking Planet at end of Fed Campaign
« on: March 07, 2003, 05:03:12 pm »
Toward or at the end of the Fed single player campaign, my fleet has been sent to Tal Shiar HQ to capture Admiral Arai (sp?) from a planet protected by two battle stations and an assortment of defense platforms and ships.  Before beaming the away team to the planet, my fleet must destroy all defenders.  This is no problem.

My problem is that the planet cloaks each time I play the scenario and never reappears.  I get the go ahead to beam down the away team, but there is no planet to lock onto.

Assistance would be appreciated.

Occasionally on some dynavese missions a planet cloaks, disappears, or explodes for no reason.  It has happened to me once, but i've done well over a dozen planet assualts.  Planets are not SUPPOSED to cloak- but it has reportedly happened.  Its a well-known game bug.  Try flying through the space where the planet was and see if you run into it, so you know if its cloaked or if it disappeared.  Also fire a probe at where the planet was, see if it picks it up (if a probe gets near a cloaked ship it has a chance of detecting it).  And finally, try upgrading to level 5 computer on your ship and running an Anti-Cloak scan near the planet (let it do it a couple times- anti cloak scans only have a 15% chance of detecting a cloaked ship, but it scans over and over).

The cloaking planet thing happened to me as well on the Mega Mod server..

I fought off a pirate and just left.. but my prestige wouldn't go up.. was supposed to get 150 - instead it locked up.  I went out and came back in -- my 150 was not there..

I'd like to put out another call for help on this scenario.  I've gotten to the point where I'm told to activate my transporter to get to the Admiral, but there is no planet.  I don't think it is cloaked either since I have flown through the area in which the planet is supposed to be and also taken fire from stations "behind" the planet.

Is this a bug?  Has anyone successfully finished the Fed campaign and, if so, how did you do it?  The planet has disappeared at least a half dozen times so far.

What I did was replay the missions... Sooner or later, the planets don't go away.

As an aside, the second time I played each mission, I allocated the planet as one of my targets (ALT + 5, 6, 7, or 8). The planet didn't cloak and it play out fine, but I don't know if this is necessarily a fix. I might have just gotten lucky.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I will try them both.  It's a little depressing that I might have to play this mission a dozen times or more to get a win.  I wonder if I exclusively target the planet will that help me retain a "lock"?  I was also considering tractoring it!  That is a tough one since the defense platforms can pound me while I am sitting there.  And, if I wait until the platforms are gone, the planet has already disappeared.  Oh well, add this to the list of bugs for Taldren to fix.

One more question:  To date, I have only replayed the mission from a saved campaign.  Do you think that the bug could be "grandfathered" into my saved campaign?  In that case, I could play it 100 times and never win.  Do you think if I began the Fed campaign from scratch it would make any difference?

Does anyone else have any ideas?
