Can't login :(

For some reason, when I get to the login screen, where my email, nickname & pass is, the login button never appears and i get the message "you are behind a firewall or not online."

I've tried turning the firewall I have on and off, and SFC is also an exception - why can't I log on?!?

BTW, any campaigns going on need a fed player? :D

SGO6 needs coalition pilots. (Klingon, Lyran, ISC or Romulan).

Did you patch to 2.5.5.2?
Did you do the full install of OP+4? (Firesoul's OP+4 ... not the imposter...)
Did you disable the Windows XP built in firewall as well?
Are you using a router?
Are you using a wireless or satellite ISP?

patched to 2552
Installed Firesoul OP+ 4.0
installed UAW
disabled firewall
do have a router (linksys wireless router)
my computer is connected to the router via cable

Next question have you obtained and read your full router manual and do you understand what a private LAN IP address is?

If not, the simple thing to do is bypass the rotuer if you can connect directly to your cable/DSL modem. (wireless is less than desireable for multiplayer gaming anyway)

Otherwise I can walk you through a staic LAN configuration, the use of the DMZ or port range forwarding if you have not figured it out after reading your manual.

portforwarding.com made my head spin... and they didn't list SFC:OP under their games with port forwarding

I did see a thread about port forwarding, but I tried the stuff and it didn't seem to work but I may have done it wrong.

Any help is appreciated.

I have a linksys router and I've have fooled around with it in terms of exploring the admin side of things.  I know how to get into the configuration menus, and know where the DMZ and port forwarding tabs are.

Does anyone still have the Ports needed for this guy. I tried to look them up on my system, but I can't find them. I think that's your problem Your the man. ;)

The ports required for SFC are the directplay ports:

2300-2400 TCP&UDP, 47624 TCP (directx 7 / SFC2)  SFC3 uses the directx8 ports.

Now do you know how to configure your local IP address statically? The DMZ or port forwarding will not work reliably if your LAN IP address is assigned dynamically by th router's DHCP server. (and I'm NOT talking about your WAN/Public IP address assigned dynamically by your ISP...)

Have you completely read the full users manual for your router yet?

You were probably not provided with one. Look at the sticker on the back or the botttom of the router to determine the exact model number, go to the linksys website, search for it and download the full users manual, then read it in full.

Some basic networking and how to use your router. I can try to help you but it is pretty much pointless until you have this knowledge.

Can you at least just give me the chapters I should look at?

I'm not going to read the entire thing, especially since I know how to get around a router - I don't need to know how to turn the thing on.

Or if you just want to write a quick walkthru on getting online to work, that'd be great.  I'm sure I can figure it out.

I have not downloaded your manual (I don't know which model it is and I'm on 31.2 Kbps dialup and no doubt its a huge pdf file...  ::)) so I cannot tell you what chapters to read. If you tell me exactly what model and revision your router is I can take a few hours to download the manual and point out the salient sections.

Preferred setup:

- Set the router to allow pings from the WAN.
- Disable UPnP on the router.
- Configure your LAN IP address statically outside the range of your router's DHCP server, but under the same netmask.
- Forward ports 2300-2400 TCP&UDP and 47624 TCP to the machine you will play OP from that you just configured with a static LAN IP.
Presto! You're good to go.

Alternate setup:

- Set the DMZ host on the router to the static LAN IP address for the machine you will play OP from.

If you are unsure of how to configure your PC with a static LAN IP address (it should be outlined in your rotuer manual), just ask and I'll try to explain it.

Sorry if I seem short about this but it happens over and over and over and over... I just grow a bit weary of it sometimes when I know its all explained in most router manuals. (thus the origin of the tech support abbreviation: RTFM! ;))

Okay, I got most of what you said and I know how to do most of that.

I may have to muddle with the whole static IP and subnet mask thing... I know where to find the subnet mask number... it's something like 255.255.255.1 or something sorta like that...
