Problem with Outlook Express
« on: August 01, 2006, 02:16:38 am »
One more problem that I thought I'd turn to you all for...

I have been having a problem with Outlook Express for some time now but more so over the last couple of weeks.

When I first open up Outlook, a window pops up asking me if want to send the Outlook icon to the the to the Recycle Bin. I can only deal with this by clicking yes (restore later) then closing Outlook and go for a restart. If instead I click in any part of the inbox all mails there start deleting, I can stop this process by quickly pressing any key, then close and restart.

I have noticed that when this is going to happen the pointer arrow briefly flickers. One other thing I have noticed is that it seems to occur after the computer has gone to sleep and bought back life, tho I'm not sure if this is every time, I am watching to see if this the case now.

I have paid versions of Adware and Zone Alarm antispyware plugin and Spybot S&D. These run in real time (except Spybot) and are on auto update and scanning. I also use AVG Free Edition which is also on auto update with regular scans and Windows Update on auto update.

The only thought I have is that maybe the mouse driver needs updating. If this a posiblity, how do I go about getting a update and installing it. The driver is HID.

I am running XP Home with SP2.

I don't remember when this problem first started but it was some time ago and it was infrequent but has happened 3-4 times in the last few days. All I have done recently is install a new printer- fax- scanner. HP

Sounds like it might be a sticky key on your keyboard? (the delete key?) Have you tried a different keyboard or cleaning the one you have to see if that solves the issue? (turn it upside down and shake the crumbs out, repeat a few times.)

If Bonk's keyboard suggestion doesn't solve it, you should also remove the mouse drivers and then let Windows re-detect the pointer device

Thanks guys. Turns out it was cat hairs. Bloody cats, screwing up my computer. Funny thing is, I got that sorted out, and I've been fighting it out since with the cr@p power supply in this shack I'm living in in Las Vegas (Word to the wise. Don't ever, if your life depend on it, ever move to Vegas. Even if your ditzy wife thinks it looks good in a movie) has little brown outs for 16 hours out of every day. Just enough to reboot the computer. So I said to ^%^% with it, and put everything on the laptop. Runs fine. Drives me mad. But thanks for jumping in with an idea.

I should have been more precise. See, as I was eating a particularly puny specimen, I spat out the annoying hair.... blood dried on the monitor, and the bloody hairs went straight to the keyboard.

Yeah.

That's what I meant..... ;D

You know, I've been a part of this community for a long time. I've posted enough to get some rank... got some Karma, and I've participated in servers enough to make me feel like I'm doing some good for the Empire and the Good ole' KBF... but when one of you :teary eyes: calls me :sniff sniff: sick... well, it just tells me that... :more sniffing, blow nose for effect:... you love me. You really, really love me....
