TT -- could be wrong but your brother was having this problem yesterday and he got it fixed by talking to Warchild? on gsa.

It had something to do with the desktop icon I believe -- phone Tekwarrior and you should be able to resolve the problem

Is this a "custom" install?

I remember that SFC doesn't like being anywhere other than the C drive, and if it's not in it's default location (program files / Taldren etc. etc.) it has been known to be a pain...

There is a problem. The Enhancement pack 4.0 is broken. It forces an install of Hardcore (the old version) on top of OP+4 which are incompatible.

Try following this procedure:
http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163359567.0.html

And if you are running multiple OP installs cycle the copies around the original install location (it will work installed to any drive and path as long as the copy you are running matches the original install folder referenced in the registry):

I had all kinds of weirdness with pesty's pack installing into non-default directories. I finally gave up and let OP install into what it wanted and installed pesty's pack the same way (NOT the newest one), and  have had no problems since. Sounds like the server is looking for OP in the wrong place.

The McAfee Privacy service is known to mess with Dynaverse logins, though usually results in the firewall message. I'd ditch it regardless.

Are you running multiple OP installs?

The trick is are you running the copy of OP whose install dir is referenced in the registry?
HKLM "SOFTWARE\Taldren\Starfleet Command Orion Pirates" "Directory"

Have you copied the StarFleetOP.exe from the original install location and pasted it as a shortcut on the desktop and then use that shortcut to run the game?

ok i'll ditch it

no.....i am not running multiple installs

yes...i have copied SFCOP to desktop

when i installed this,i use to crash immediatelt to desktop,as soon as i hit the "join' button

when i switch to running this in windows 98 (compatibility thingie) and then hit join sgo6  it is then when it says i am missing the exe file, even though i have it pasted to desktop

StarFleetOP.exe shortcut, unmodified, you should not see the opening movie.

Was Norton Anti-Virus running while you installed and patched OP?

If so, completely disable it, uninstall and delete OP then install and patch OP. But not before you get all the windows updates. Run windows update over and over until it tells you there are no critical updates needed. (there will be lots of reboots in the process)

To create a valid shortcut for OP, browse to the OP installation folder, copy StarFleetOP.exe then paste it as a shortcut on the desktop and use that shortcut to run the game. (#3 in this thread: http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163359567.0.html)

Gawds...are you still having trouble TT?  :o

Is it possible the data on your disk is corrupted...?
After everything you've tried, almost hard to believe XP is giving you such a hard time.
I've had OP on WIN 98, ME, XP and now have XP64...no issues whatsoever with any...

Try making a sacrifice to Kahless before installing again... :P

i wonder what i originally did to cause this problem???  o well   dell restore seems to have fixed the problem.cutting and pasting a shortcut to desktop didn't fix it...strange,but i tried it again after launching from the desktop(frpm start/programs/taltren) and made it......strange   but i am happy now.
