SGO6 install problem
« on: August 05, 2006, 09:12:10 am »
I started setting up for SGO6 this morning and while installing, the installer crashed.
I have mod chooser installed and OP+4 as the active mod when I ran the SGO6 installer, the SGO6 installer completes, but when I run mod chooser it shows a status bar and gets half way thru then shows a 'runtime error 70' - permission denied. I can't select anything now and have no idea what the active mod is anymore and as 'the forge' is offline I can't log onto anything to see whats working and whats not.

Any idea how to fix this ???

Maybe try the Mirror site?
Here's SkyFlyer's:

Other than that, I'm not sure...

If the installer runs it is not a corrupted download - the installer has a built in self CRC check.

You'll have to check with Strat on this if you want to use the mod chooser. (I suspect you have already used its maximum number of mod slots?)

SGO6 is not intended to work with the mod chooser. It has its own uninstaller.

When you install SGO6 it backs up your current files. If you want to switch back to what your were running before you installed it, then just uninstall it. Simple.

Skip using the mod chooser and you should be fine.

If you want to manually install the files see this thread:

Be aware that the posted installer will be updated later today approximately 2-3 hours after I recieve the shiplist we are actually going to use on the server.

OK, I think I got it. I had to edit the modchooser.ini file (blanking the SGO6 mod), copied over the entire dir tree  in OP with OP+4 mod, and deleting the mod folder which contains SGO6 from modchoosers backups and replacing it with a blank dir tree from an open slot. Seems to work again, and even reinstalled SGO6 into modchooser and selected the mod.

In which case I have no idea what files will be restored when you uninstall SGO6. The mod chooser does not account for mod uninstallers and may break them. You will not be able to install new versions of SGO6 without uninstalling any currently installed version of SGO6.

If I remember right, modchooser 'swaps' into/out entire directories into OP, so if I DON't use the uninstaller, and just repeat the above process when it's over, I think I'll be OK.

I hope.

oh, man- another 'fix' as we speak. Guess I'll delete the current SGO6 right now, and try to install next week (Dizzy's usual time to fix his servers).
