Mid Server Rule Change.

Approved by the admin and Leaders of each side, the following rule now applies:

- CVD (Interdiction Carriers, those usually with 16 or so fighters) and CVP (Patrol Carriers, those with 12 fighters) are treated as Capital ships for fleeting purposes.

I realize in the rules you have a fighter CnC for F14 and F15. 

I bring this up after watching 8 A-10s fire 16 photons and 8 drones in less than 10 seconds, completely destrying a CWLp.  I will also mention there were 2 PLasma-S that did reach the target and do a total of 30 internals between them. 

would some fighters be considered OTT?  Perhaps the A-10s are?


Are the A-10s taking up 2 slots for fighters? I ask because I do not fly Feds.  If they are not, imagine 12 or 16 of these.  Not trying to start another flamefest over fighters or nothing, just that I dont know the answers, and seem to have some questions.

Ya, A10's are nasty... But their flaw is obvious. They are slow. VERY slow. Speed 24 drones can catch them. Stay outside their photon range, which is 4.99? and whittle them down. Fed carriers are also notoriously slow. It's easy to get them seperated from their fighters especially if the FCV's opponent is using Plasma. A10's will never make it back in the hangar bay.

Ah heck with it  ;D

The idea that A10's are "slow" as something to balance them tends towards being something of a false argument.
The average Fed pilot doesn't dump them out until they're in position to fire anyway,much like the plasma fighters themselves are (usually) employed. And the idea that "they won't make it back to the hanger bay " is another, the m version can absorb 20 pts of damage, so it depends on where the plasma was fired.
Their ability to fire (near) instantly with the photons make them an excellent one-shot dump weapon, the fact that they can later follow this up with a decent drone salvo makes them all the better.

In SFB (btw) they are restricted fighters - I believe only the CVA/SCS carries them, and then only 2 wings.

HOWEVER - that being said they are somewhat vunerable to drone fighters. The K-ZYBm stands a pretty fair chance at killing them, and the ZYCm will cut through them with the sheer number of antifighter drones it can launch.
But~
The drone fighters don't fire instantly (I don't know the exact time they take to load) so they have to be out first, which of course means they're subject to AMD/phasers/drones etc...

Also note that the Gorn,Rom and ISC all have photon (though not photon & drone) carrying fighters.
I have not used them personally, but while they can't salvo as many shots (A10m can fire 2 shots 2 times, Rom GSFm can fire 1 shot 4 times) they should have approximately the same ability to drop and fire.


EDIT (the second) Also keep in mind that PlasmaD is probably the single most effective mass fighter killer in the game. (assuming you're playing plasma)

Edit (the third) and No.. the A10's don't take up two slots, that's reserved for their big brother, the A20  ;D
(and the F-111 ..which is another story all together)

Every single race in this mod has a fighter where if you charge into a crowd of 8 of them you can get pwnd.

If you think A10's are uber you should really try out the ZYBm.

Hrmmm, then t00| must not be an average fed pilot... <snicker> He dumped them out because if he didn't there wouldnt be a place to dump them out of, hahahahaha.

ZYBm is pretty average as far as YFA 17 fighters go.
In any event- again- none of teh drone fighters have the ability to fire as soon as launched, so tehy do lose something over those that do.
( A10's, the plasmas (I think) , The plasma races photon fighters, those evil little STs' (again I think)

But essentially true, there is a large gap between fighter quality up until 77, a slightly narrower gap from 77-79.
By 80 every race can field some pretty decent fighters for either attacking ships or killing fighters.
