SFC scene circa 1998-2001?

hey y'all

Im an SFC'er from waaaaay back. Some of you old-timers might remember me... though I recall having an abortive attempt at an identity change every other week or so my callsign generally revolved around the word "SIX" in some fashion or another, and that was the name folks generally called me.

I guess back then 'Starlance' was the big thing... I dont even think Dynaverse worked back then,lol. Ah, 'Starlance'...

That particular "Bloody Claw County" crew ranked #2 in this archive: http://web.archive.org/web/20000417080025/www.starlance.com/sfc2/main/signup.cfm (from Komodo's thread) was under my command at that time... teeheehee *pats self on the back*... I think we held that ranking proudly for at least 3 hours.

I also spent some time with KHZ, MoK, Pirates Cove, 9th, GT and several others that have slipped my memory.
I quit playing SFC2 online shortly after 9/11. That tragedy really exposed an ignorant and selfish element to the SFC community that I couldnt quite stomach so I pretty much bowed out. Sadly, since I left SFC2 in 2001 I havent yet come across a game that comes close to matching the challenge and fun of live SFC matches... and Ive got a serious itch to start playing again.

Anyway... are there any folks from back in those days still playing? If so, and you happen to read to this, please let me know how the current community stacks up to the olden days.

i still play the old sfc  gold addition, its updated to the 1.03 v.  we can play an IP games in multy some time with other's if ya can i played at mplayer and was known as  "CA. Ltjg. J. Gordon" haha what a blast the tourneys haha.

Ah....no..I'm sorry ..it isnt...although fleetmate of mine though back in those days...we both were members in Task Force Delphinus...

I saw Ck maybe a year ago?...I'm sure he'll pop up again though..

My nickname in the early days was "Crimnick"...I hung out with SFC shadow, Kirk Jr, NTDN, Captian Krumb and many more ..

i've played Kirk and Krummy too. had a good time on old mplayer, i went to gamespy last night to see if any body was there to play and no one showed up,       maybe someday ;D

Yeah...there arent too many pick up games anymore unless it a weekend or a tourney night...

The forge almost allways has someone on though...pretty rare to log in and see no one...

Right now the pick up games are hot and cold.  Two shiplists rule the roost...(mods)  4.0 and Hardcore.  There is also UAW a very different perspective on the game.

There are a few pilots here and there ... old timers that come aborad now and then.  Maldo of Pirates Cove was back on.  Slider of Icop (under the name Gunz) and a smattering of pilots from the past once in a while show up.

Overall level of play is usually pretty good except for the cheese ships which can be found at all BPV's; To avoid some of them  (Tugs with massive offensive weaponry or war destroyers with 6 transporters) you should run HARDCORE.  Newbies are few and far between and the next level of player you see is a "rusty vet" returning for a long stay or just a few games.  Most games are team oriented vice 1v1 and the players swap about sort of like midnight basketball...lol.  Sometimes one of the few remaining fleet stake out a room and take on whatever ecclectic gaggle drops in.

I used to fly with GE and then 3rd and KOG (Klingon).
