It has been my experiance that most linux users wear suspenders and have beards.

During the Christmas season they pick up extra work as mall santas where they tell the little children the advantages of the Linux operating system. "But Santa, all I want for Christmas is a dolly!!"

"You must be one of those PC users" says the psuedo-santa with a hint of smug superority that is a trademark of all linux santas.

You see, all of societies problems can be traced back to when children visited a mall santa and he tried to get them to use Linux. Except for the problems in the middle east, that was caused by those smelly hippy Mac users.

Well assembling a Car from scratch is a lot better than having to pay to lease it and never actually owning a car.  Well for most people...most would rather own than lease...

Guess they don't require insurance or driver licenses where you live... I would certainly call those leases.

Owning hardware is one thing... being able to use it to do what you want (owning a gun vs. a hunting license) has long been an area of both public and private interests.

However I won't let a fabulous funny be derailed any further.

No veins are popping I'm not the fanatic on this that some people think.  I'm merely pro choice and there are strong forces on the Microsoft side aiming to remove choice.  If you willingly use Microsoft that is fine with me.  But I will make sure people know of other choices

But lets go ahead with the car analogy and Microsoft.

One colour - lavender and you can't repaint.

The drivers seat is custom fitted - but not for you and it can't be replaced.

You can't remove the radio that only gets Microsoft approved stations for news, talk and music.
You can add another radio but sometimes Microsoft turns it off and turns theirs on.
The Microsoft radio calls Microsoft and tells them what you listen to.

You can't remove the trailer it comes with and which doesn't serve your needs but you can sometimes tow a useful trailer behind it.
The Microsoft trailer calls Microsoft and tells them what you carry in it.

If you repave your driveway your vehicle stalls and you have to get Microsoft to restart it after you convince them it is indeed the same driveway.

If you move to a new driveway your vehicle stalls and Microsoft insists you have to buy it again or they won't reactivate.

Sometimes the vehicle just stalls and you have to get Microsoft to reactivate it.

Sometimes the vehicle thinks its stolen and you have to get Microsoft to reactivate it.  If they don't believe it is your car they will still sell it to you.

If you try to reactivate your vehicle without Microsofts consent you are now a criminal and can be sent to jail for several years and pay a major fine.

The car phones Microsoft with information on your driving habits and if you block that it stalls with the usual activation requirements.

After you buy it Microsoft presents a license that you have to accept that shows you only rented it.  If you don't accept Microsoft says to get a refund from the dealer.  The dealer says I didn't commit to giving you a refund - get it from Microsoft.  Microsoft says I didn't sell it to you get the refund from the dealer.

No beard, no suspenders and your dolly requests are out of Barbarella and Child's Play so no you can't have them.

Yep, and last time I checked Microsoft did not equal a state or US government.

My family self insures with the right documentation...so once again...at least I have the option and you know what...it works.

As I said, I don't have to lease the car...NOR do I have to lease it's engine...heck I don't even have to lease it's operating...uh, I mean Mechanical portions of the vehicle.  It operates just fine and I own it all...most people would rather OWN the actual OPERATING system of their car rather than some smo of a company saying they can take it from your vehicle anytime they want, and if you change the oil you have to reauthorize your electrical readout system with them or you get locked out...

Afterall, you do realize most cars now actually DO have an OS...and luckily if you buy the car you own that as well.

Car insurance...that's more akin to having insurance such as property insurance or house insurance that covers your computer.  Last time i checked MS wasn't in the insurance business.

Its one of Microsofts newer brainstorms.  They now say that where the license says that Windows is for use on one computer they mean one motherboard.  So if you upgrade your motherboard or replace it due to failure they want you to buy a new copy of Windows.

Jealous that you didn't think of it first?

Wait until the RIAA and MPAA catch onto this one and claim that your CDs and DVDs are only licensed to one player.  Buy a new player and replace your collection.

You know, the RIAA is an industry leech. It doesn't seem to make a living by selling any products, but by suing other people.

Umm...alright what just happened here? This has to be the second dumbest thing I've ever heard. Who'd they hire to interpret the license, the same guys who interpret the constitution? :skeptic:

If you want dumber legal theories read this thread.

Microsoft has run into a problem economically.  Their whole system is geared to growth and their market is reaching maximum size and saturation just as competitors are beginning to grow.  They have to find a way to grow further, sell more to the same customers or change their system to handle a stable or decreasing market.  I expect this to lead them to doing some very strange things, this is one.

LOL Thanks for that Nemesis. I think I suffered a brain hemorrhage trying to make sense of the "Negative Know How" concept. Also Maxillius' reply to the post was great, said just what I was thinking.

Does that still depend on the type of licence you buy?  For instance I have the "full" version of WinXP and under the terms I supposed to be able to install my copy of WinXP on to another computer as long as I first uninstall WinXP from the computer that I am using now.  Whereas a "OEM" version of WinXP is limited only to the computer it was first installed on.

If the pricing models have changed for Vista so that the "full" versions can no longer be used in the way I described above, than there is no reason to buy "full" versions of Vista.  You might was well save yourself a hundred or so dollars and just buy the "OEM" version of vista.

I'm not sure.  I can't find the original posting with the link to Microsofts definitions.  I expect that if it does depend on the license today Microsoft will change it in time.  Don't forget the EULA is updated each time you download a patch.

Well the whole point of buying the full version is the ability to uninstall WinXP from one computer and install it onto another one.  If Microsoft tries to change that after purchase, then myself and a few thousand other people would be more than happy to start a class action lawsuit against Microsoft.  Because in a sense what Microsoft would be doing is turning every full version into a OEM version.  That's fine as long as Microsoft pays me the $150~$170USD to make up the difference for the added restrictions.  In fact... the more I think about it... it's not fine with me!  I want the option to install WinXP on another computer a when this computer dies.
