Restore Partitions - Do you need them?
« on: July 30, 2006, 11:57:29 pm »
Like most computers my new computer has a recovery partition (20%) on the HDD.  This "restores" the computer to the original configuration (full of cr*p-ware) >:(. I have a disk for the operating system (Win XP) so I can reinstall the OS with that. Do I need to  use the restore package in order to have the correct drivers installed. I have much better things that I could do with the HDD space. ;D

Find out what you have and download the drivers. Then you will have them if you ever need to do a re-installation. then delete the recovery partition.

I've been thinking about doing just that with this new machine sometime in the near future.

Macs don't have recovery partitions ;D
I was never here, you were never here, this conversation never took place, and you most certainly did not see me.

simply put, no you don't.  as long as you know what hardware is in your computer you should be able to download updated drivers (win xp, in theory, should use a default driver for anything it finds...though certain hardware still won't be picked up)

hope that helps.

I think I still have the recovery partitions on both laptops in the house.

of course; if my LT's windows install dies; it's not going Win when I bring it back up.

I wouldn't delete it unless you have a windows XP CD handy.
