Two questions, making a movie and uploading to D.net
« on: July 24, 2006, 01:29:11 am »
I have two questions.

First, I have access to Windows Movie Maker, and Windows Media Player as well as Nero.  I also have access to Windows Media edition.

What I'm wanting to do is use my DVD burner to make a DVD that will play in a DVD player like other DVDs.  In otherwords I want to make DVD movies from home movies, or things that I find on the web.

Also, if I wanted to load a file onto D.net (more than a Picture, but like a movie or something to share) can we do that?  and if so, what is the proper way to do it and also to provide a link.

Also of course it would be preferable if there were a way to have an autodelete function or something after 30 days so it doesn't take up too much space.  Or is it that we can't do things like that?

Anyways, thanks on both for any answers.  The first one is the one I'm REALLY interested in and trying to figure out, the other one is just curiousity.

1) You may attach files to posts (under "Additional Options..." on the post edit page) and link them as they are linked at the bottom of the completed post.
Allowed file types: txt, doc, pdf, jpg, gif, wav, mpg, png, zip, rar
Maximum attachment size allowed: 4024 KB, per post: 10

2) You can use the Library Upload to upload files directly to a specific subfolder of the downloads folder and link them directly.
Allowed Extensions: gif, jpeg, jpg, png, bmp, rec, zip, rar
Max File size: 40M

3) You can use the Community FTP account to upload files of any type or size to any "upload" subfolder folder in the downloads folder and link them directly. If you would like to make the file permanent send a request to Frey or I and we can move the file to the desired folder in the downloads area. Or if you just want it there temporarily you can leave it in the upload folder that you uploaded it to and then delete it when you no longer need it.

All files uploaded must be related to SFC/Dynaverse.Net in some way, any innapropriate files will be removed. Please show some restraint as we have limited bandwidth (32KB/s total) so don't upload a bunch of huge files (DVD rips, etc) and link them to dozens of your friends.

I use Roxio Easy Media Creator to create DVDs that will play in a regular DVD player, but I imagine later versions of Nero have the same capability, though I have not used it. I expect it is explained in their help files or on their website.

Haven't checked the website yet.  I have checked the help files but couldn't make heads or tails of how to do it.  They tell how to create a data DVD or a Video DVD, but if I have a movie that's in something like MPG format, they don't say how to convert it to a DVD MPEG-4 or other format that a DVD player will recognize and play like a DVD.  That's specifically where the problem lies.

Easy Media Creator makes it easy as pie. Perhaps nero does not natively have the capability to generate/convert media to vob files, and you need another program to do it? I really don't know though. Perhaps there are some Nero users here who might be able to help.

Ah here is the answer to your question (Nero cannot do it):

5. Why am I not able to create a DVD-Video disc from an AVI, MOV, MPEG or MPEG-2 source file (using Nero or Nero Express)?

At this time, Nero/Nero Express will only work with VOB, IFO or BUP file formats when creating a DVD-Video.

These formats can be created by software such as our NeroVision Express, which can convert AVI, MPEG, or MPEG-2 to VOB, IFO and BUP format structure.

Important Note
You need to have the DVD Encoder installed for this conversion.

For more information about NeroVision Express refer to: Features

Google search on the subject:

Ah, hmmm, in that case I need a rather cheap program to create VOPs from.  Does anyone know how Sonic (or is it Soncz) does?

You mentioned Roxio?

Yeah, Roxio Easy Media Creator: http://www.roxio.com/ but it costs around $80.

You could have a look around http://www.snapfiles.com/freeware/ in the multimedia section. Though with a quick glance there I don't see anything there that converts avi video to vob files. Have you considered VCD format?

Came across this one indirectly through a Google search for you:

VSO DivxToDVD 0.5.2b (last freeware version)
DivxToDVD converts your movie files from a wide range of formats (AVI, XVID, MPEG, and DIVX) to compliant DVD structures (VOB and IFO).

I got there through:
