Need Modeler help! Poly Reducing on this model plz.
« on: July 21, 2006, 04:52:17 am »
I have a model by an unknown artist. I'm planning on using it for my next dynaverse server but there are too many polys. Could someone run this thru a poly reducer so we can get a decent frame rate on this? Another approach might be to axe the end segments. There are 7 segments on 4 rows... deleting the ends would leave four rows of 5. I can deal with that too... but the frame rate on this... the polys are just too much. I dont even know how many polys it has just that its a frame rate hog. Would someone help me?

Its no wonder this thing is a system hog. Its nearly 15,000 polys. If someone else doesnt' get to it I'll give it a go Dizzy.

Well I started to remake it As that seemed to me the easyest way to reduce the poly count.

Not that hard and Ill send you the file when Im done, and you can get the persons permition to release the remade version.

Also do you need me to texture it or can you do that?.

Im about done with it as is.

Ok I got it to 5900 polies with the same amout of segments.

is that ok or do you want me to cut a couple of segments?

Thanks so much! Yeah, if you could slap some real basic 128's on it I can always go back and make em look snazzy... Im good with texturing. I'll probably mess with it anyway as I have an idea how its gonna be a general ship/warpgate for all races in the Slave Girls of Orion VI DynaServer and will fit all races...

And the original artist is unknown to me. So the readme file would have to reflect that.

And my, that was quick!

EDIT: Nah, 5900 is perfect. One warpgate model per mission and that is roughly equivalent to two cruiser models. Just perfect. So how'd u drop that many polys?

Like I said I just remade it. Made one side and just mirrored it, plus it seemed like the person had some unnecessary Polly's on it that really would not be seen so I did not include them.

And I'll use that persons textures then and you can change them when you get it I guess.

Want a break mod as well while I'm thinking about it.

Break model is just icing on the cake! Thanks for the help. What kinda break did you have in mind? I was thinking when it dies, all the various sections seperate.... a few blow up... and the shiny parts go black.  :D

Awesome... Totally usable now Khalee. TY. Gonna use this in a new mission called Stargate Assault on Slave Girls of Orion VI. I even test the breakmod and the segments split up and veered away. Awesome. Only thing I noticed unusual is the red glows and the white/blue panels didnt seem to glow from the shadow side. That the way its supposed to be?

No I just did not include the light maps, as if your going to change the textures having the old lightmaps included would probably interfear with the new ones, but I can put the maps on it if you want them and re email it to you no problem.

Ok, miscommunication then. I do plan on using the lightmaps, but I'm altering their textures. Not applying my own. So yes, I would need to have the light map texture already there. I cant wait to get this puppy in a mission...
