EAW vs. OP models?
« on: July 14, 2006, 11:34:32 pm »
 Just a quick question, I was browsing over at Battleclinic and was wondering, Are models listed as compatible with OP automatically compatible with EAW or must they have the EAW listing under "SFC Versions" as well?

Kind of an out of place question, but hey, you guys made most of 'em so why not go to the source.

OP And EAW are basicly the same game. OP just adds pirates, so yes the models that are made for OP will work for EAW and vice versa.

Only one that is differant is SFC3, only models made for SFC3 will work for SFC3. the models made for the other versions can work but they have to be modified with extra files and whatnot.

The only difference between SFC3 models and SFC2/OP is the way the weapons hardpoints are arranged and numbered on the model itself.  For a quick fix of that situation, you could simply import the ship in any 3D model program that imports SFC ships, and just delete the hardpoints.  The damage points for ships for all the SFC games is identical, the last time I checked.

Yes EAW and OP models are the same and all work with SFC2.

If you need an easy program for editing hardpoints try CV 0.75.

http://www.assimsoft.com/archive/cv/CVArchive/CV0.7.5/index.html

You also need to delete the files in the SFC 3 model folder that are not in a SFC 2 model folder (such as the .gf file and the nameD.bmp files).  If you leave them in the folder they can cause problems with the program. Then you need to go through the same procedure that you do to add any model to SFC 2.

This is a VERY, VERY brief description of the SFC 3 to SFC 2 conversion so that you could see what is needed.  If you are interested converting SFC 3 models to SFC 2 PLEASE ask for more detailed instructions.

Adding a ship to SFC2/OP is considerably different than adding to SFC3.  But I've never heard of a situation where the .gf file ever interfered with OP or EAW.

As for me, I don't need CV.  I work in MAX5.

Anyway, as I said, quick fix, delete all hardpoints from the model itself.  If you want a touch of reality to the model, just rearrange and rename the hardpoints where necessary.

I would love to learn how to add hardpoints to my own models....my only concern was how they differ between games. I just wondered to myself if it would make a converter's job easier if important ship systems and weapons are already marked off on the model.

For which game in particular would you want to learn how to HP for, Raven.  If it's SFC3, I could tell you how I do it.  I'm not the best, but I'm pretty decent.  If it's for SFC2/OP, there are many here whom I believe would be more than happy to help you.
