OP CTDs after every mission on dynaverse.
« on: July 08, 2006, 05:40:05 pm »
Hit done on the mission summary screen and it CTDs on every mission on the Forge so far.  Wasn't this an issue before?  Guess I might have to try a reinstall, eventhough this was a reinstall that I just did.

System Specs:

Dell Dimension E521
AMD64x2 5000+
2G DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3

Try turning off windowed mode. ;) Also, ensure you have no software firewalls or AV running.

Turned off AV, no firewalls.  Still no joy.  Will reinstall later and see if that helps.

What's the character name? I can take a look in the db to make sure all is in order... Also, is this happening with only one mission script or all of them?

Are you skipping the intro by creating a shortcut to StarFleetOP.exe? (a reinstall may not be necessary) Was AV off when you installed and patched?

Character name: Lepton
Seems to be happening in all scripts.
Skipping intro via shortcut and clicking directly on StarFleetOP.exe
AV was off on install and off on patches as I did not even have the AV installed yet.

I checked the db and the flags value was out of place for your character though I suspect this is just because you crashed out. (I edited the flags value to the normal logged off state). Otherwise, all seems to be in order.

You may want to create a shortcut to OP by copying StarFleetOP.exe and "paste as a shortcut" on the desktop. That will create the proper "start in" parameter and other shortcut settings. Though I think double clicking the exe in the explorer may be equivalent.

OP before AV... That's my boy!  ;D

As Mazeppa suggested in the other thread you may need to set your desktop ot 16 bit color depth if you want to run in windowed mode.

Are you using a router?

I was aware of the desktop color depth issue, so that is set to 16 bit.  I believe the CTDs are occuring via either start-up method, either via the shortcut or directly clicking on the exe.

Did reinstall.  Seems ok now, but I only ran one mission.  No CTD though, so things are good.

Try turning off windowed mode. ;) .

why?

I recall drb had troubles with it that produced similar results once. I imagine its dependent on the video adapter and drivers used. You just have to try it and see if it works on your system. My system doesn't like windowed mode so I don't use it, but I have an older video card with finicky drivers.

Also, I suspect that people want to use windowed mode so they can cope with firewall, P2P and IM popups, all of which are a bad idea to run while playing SFC online.
