Ok here is the problem.
I have done port forwarding as well as DMZed but none of this has worked still can not got past the router error message.
I have the lastest updates and patchs.
I can not take the router out of the loop becuase it is also my phone line. Yes I have VOIP.
I'm also running the internet access for my store which is down stairs so I have to keep the router in the network.
so is there any other things I should  be checking.
Cable modem with 8meg down and 385K up.
Linksys router.
Home made PC with AMD 3.2g proc, 512 meg ram Nivdea 6800 with 512 ram as well as both wired 10/100 and wire less 108 network cards. I have tryed with each of the card and still does not work.

Ensure you have applied the Directory servers update.

You cannot use port forwarding and the DMZ at the same time. One or the other. For either to work properly and reliably your gaming PC must be configured with a static LAN IP. Do not use a wireless connection for gaming. (Disable or remove the wireless adapter)

For SFC2 the required ports are 2300-2400 TCP&UDP, 47624 TCP.

Look at the WAN status of your Linksys - note the DNS servers. Look at the LAN DHCP server settings on the Linksys - note the assigned range. Disable UPnP port forwarding.

Configure your LAN adapter on your gaming PC statically:

Start...Control Panel (Classic View)...Network Connections...Local Area Connection...Right Click...Properties...(Uninstall any QoS or UPnP services present)...Select TCP/IP...Properties Button..."Use the following IP address" radio button:
IP address: 192.168.1.220 (? - just make sure the last number is outside the LAN DHCP servers range)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (or the rotuer's configured LAN IP address)
Use the following DNS server Addresses Radio Button...
Preferred DNS server: (The first DNS server listed on the router's WAN status page noted above)
Alternate DNS server: (The second DNS server listed on the router's WAN status page noted above)
...OK...OK.
(you may need to check the WAN status page from time to time - monthly - to ensure your DNS servers have not changed)

Back to the router port forwarding page, forward the range and port noted above (those are all that are required for SFC2) to 192.168.1.220 (or the IP address outside of the LAN DHCP range you selected above). Ensure UPnP port forwarding is disabled.
At the router's Filters page also ensure that you are allowing pings from the WAN. (Disable block WAN requests).

Ensure you are spyware and virus free, ensure Windows is fully updated. (Windows update or MBSA) Then disable the Windows Firewall. Disable Zonealarm. (Never run the Wndows Fireewall and Zonalarm simultaneously) Disable Norton. Uninstall the McAfee Privacy service if present. Disable and exit MS Antispyware / Windows Defender if present.
Ensure you have no open/unrestricted shares, better yet uninstall file and printer sharing if you do not need it. Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP on the adapter if you do not require it for local domain logins or filesharing.

Login, Enjoy.

Restore Firewall and On-demand Virus Scanners when finished playing. Run a full Virus/Spyware/Trojan scan to prove to yourself that you have not been hacked until you can play without software firewalls without crippling paranoia.

I have done all the above at lest 3 times. Still no go on the D2.
I know the router is not he problem.
I have talked to me ISP and they do not have any thing blocked.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game and all patchs.
Nothing is working at this time.

  And Yes I know you can not do both port forwarding and DMZ at the same time.

A valid gamespy login is required to login to the serverlist, but that does not come into play until the firewall detection is complete.

Are you sure you have applied the directory server patch?
ftp://www.dynaverse.net/sfc2_op/patches/sfc2_directory_server_updater.exe

Your \MetaAssets\ServerProfiles\Multiplayer\WONServerSetup.gf should show:

0="client.sfc.dynaverse.net:15101"
1="client.dynaverse.net:15101"
2="sfc2.directory.stasis.ca:15101"

as the only uncommented entries under [WONDirectoryServer/Addresses] if so....

Can you ping client.sfc.dynaverse.net?
Can you be pinged from the WAN?

edit: Hmmm... I wonder if since your router is a VOIP device if its settings are conflicting? Exactly what model of router is it? What ports does the VOIP box use? Is the VOIP device seperate from the router or integrated?
