I have my aunt looking at it, she says it looks like it is in the bee or wasp family from first glance. She says she can get it down to family probably, but needs clearer pictures than that for better identification.
She says it is te order of Hymenoptera, which includes Sawflies, Ichnemons, Chalcids, Ants, Wasps, and Bees. Just from a quick glance.
However she emphasizes that this is a quick guess from a blurry picture. She's a conservation biologist, but she can't identify it that quickly which indicates she hasn't actually seen this one that much...
That hardest thing is that it looks like it has one set of wings, but normally Hymenoptra has four wings instead of two...otherwise it seems to fit that profile. It could have an underwing however like some bees. If she could see the wings in detail (she'd have to see it clearly with the definitions of the splits and lines in the wings) to make a much more accurate analysis.
The other order it would fill in would be the flies which would be called the diptera, though that might mean that was a Bite instead of a sting. Now that she looks at it more she thinks it's more likely diptera than Hymenoptra, especially if it only has two wings.
