Models to be finished-update: 3ds ports & pix avail
« on: June 14, 2006, 01:28:41 pm »
These were max files sent to bcfiles in hopes someone could finish them because he cannot. However I can't even tell what they are beacuse I can't open them.

need someone to open them and perhaps make a few renders:
http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Severus_Class_max_format;64320

http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Ridge_Back_Class_Max_Format;64319

http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Ridge_Back_Class_Type_2_Max_Format;64318

http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Falcon_Class_Max_File;64317

http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Hercules_Class_max;63111

These are all untextured models. If you can port them to 3ds as well I might have someone interested in finishing them. The author didn't specify what max he used, but I can tell you it's not 3.1.

For 3ds files and images go here:
http://bridgecommander.3dactionplanet.gamespy.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=23022
Their original formatt was max 7 for those interested.

Well Were the otherfiels you sent me max 7 as well?. if so that would explain why I could not open the files even tho they were 3ds files. I can open max 5 and lower but nothing else.

I guess I could try converting them.  Which ones are the ones that you really want done?

I dunno really, I guess I don't really care. I can't remeber what any of these are or if I ever saw pix. I guess simply save them as 3ds and release them and people can do the ones they like.

I imported them into max7. Which worked fine. When I exported them to 3ds though they ended up jumbled up. They appear to be complete but a lot of the parts are rearanged

Very disappointing.  Normally a port from .MAX to .3DS shouldn't be too bad.  Think you could send me one of those 3DS ports?

there seems to be a similar problem with a ship I'm trying to get out of aramda.

First off, .MAX files are a Program specific file that includes things that are only relevant to 3D Studio MAX and what plugins you have on a specific machine, i.e. no two are exactly alike even though two different guys on different systems have created a simple primitive sphere. Heck the file even spits out things like whos owns the MAX program, what time it was day of the week, month and year. (Perhaps even what you had for lunch  ).

None of this "extra" information is needed to get at the polygons that are created and is way overkill. No one is going to work on such a thing, and it gets asked every week or so on these forums.

The second best thing to getting something out of MAX to MS3D is to export it to SMD if possiable, (since you can get the animations with this format), if not export to OBJ, and worst case, export to 3DS.

Another thing about MAX files is that models that usually come from it can be really high polycount and may be to many for MS3D
to open. The limit for MS3D presently if a max of 64k polygons.

Many places offer the 3DS format as well as MAX and others so grab these and try them as a converter for MAX to MS3D is just not going to happen, at least any time soon.

This is copied from a response on the milkshape forum asking for a .max importer for milkshape. Might explain the trouble with importing/exporting these.

Sorry it's been a while.  I just looked at these files.  You weren't kidding about these being incomplete.  Two of the classes, the Falcon and Hercules, in my opinion, should be looked at and worked on and finished.  The Ridgeback and Severus I don't think are really worth working on, but then again that's my opinion.

The Falcon is a Nebula variant, and the Hercules is a Sovereign bash in a Nebula style.  Reminds me of the Ronin class over at Scifi-Meshes.com.

I have the Falcon and Hercules in mod files, but, as SF stated, they need to be finished.  Although I personally wouldn't mind just seeing them rebashed from scratch using choice parts.

The Severus and Falcon need finishing up, but the Hercules needs major reconstruction from the ground up.  I think something may be wrong with her mesh.  That's the best port I could come up with.

Not in the batch that was sent to me.  There's another ship, called the Ridgeback, that I didn't even bother porting to MOD cause it was too hideous.
