LCW preamble
« on: May 30, 2006, 07:22:05 am »
As pretty much the only server idea I've presented that people actually ask me about
I thought I'd throw a bit out about the upcoming Lyran Civil War server.
(Such a polite race we are, even scheduling our civil wars for your convenience)

Tentative kick off date is Sept 1st 2006

Sides

There are 4 teams on two sides

Loyalists
-Enemies Blood
-Foremost

Royalists
-Red Claw
-Far Stars

Neutralish
-LDR

But that's 5 spots you say, and I'd have to agree -yes it is.
The LDR WILL be a playable race- if something happens (damn HB gave me some good ideas)
In any event before I get notes asking if you can fly LDR or how could I possibly let the LDR in, let me tell everyone it's already taken care
of. The LDR will be confined to a certain area of space, their ships have been modfied to represent the SFB idea of "high maintenance"
and they have a very strict OOB.

Timeline
The server will run from  2268-2282 (or 89 if I for some strange reason go to 3 weeks)
"That's a long civil war" you say. And i'd agree- it is, but it actually fits with the "official" SFB General War history.

Events
Blame this one on Burt- his ideas of a storyline that would be going on while the server was running
inspired me. There is after all a war going on while this is happening. From time to time your armies may have to deal with
Hydran or Kzin incursions. (depending on where your clan is located)
These can not be ignored lightly- the Kzin (savages that they are) will enjoy feasting on your kin if you're not there to protect them.
And the Hydrans have no qualms about slaughtering any civilians they come across.

Shiplist

Haven't decided yet if it will be a regimented OOB , or just a fun free for all

Background

I've included a lin for those who have PM/asked about where I get the SFB background stuff that I say is "official"

The "Officlal" History of the General War ( http://starfleetgames.com/sfb/sfin/general_war.htm ) has always bothered me as...
silly actually. While I (of course) applaud what the designers have accomplished, their background work is.. lacking.
While (again of course) the Feds have to win, again and again the Alliance is saved by the deux ex machina, while the coaltion makes
"tiny mistakes that proved to be costly in the long run" time and time again.
Still- back on topic.

The Lyran Empire (and their Klingon allies) are shown to have
1)Conquered the Hydran territory shown on the F&E map
2)Conquered or at least devastated most (if not all) of the Kzin on territory map

These are the only two Empires in a position to be fighting the Lyrans, neither is ever in any real postion to raid Lyran space, and
yet both are able to rebuild their fleets to the point where they are able to retake the conquered territory by the end of the war.
So what happened to the Lyrans ability to build a fleet? The Lyran maintaned a (very) small force on the Federation front, and only comitted (very briefly) to Operation Nutcracker.

Yet the Empire is deemed "Incapable of any strategic offensive" by 2281, having spent the "last of it's reserves" in a futile attack on teh Wyn cluster.
So the question is-  Why were two completely devastated empires both able to outproduce one Empire that never really saw any kind of major raid, let alone an invasion? An empire that should have ben able to use it's share of the conquered territory to at least match the combined production of the other two ?
What if the Lyrans were actually fighting the proverbial mother of all civil wars while the General War was underway?

The official published history had the Klingons and Lyrans ready to attack the Hydrans before a last minute decision by the Emperor to attack the Kzin happened, according to said history there were (at least) two factions -One centered on attacking the Hydrans one the Kzin
what if after the attack things got out of hand, the king had to flee (unrealted to SFB- just my "personal" RP history- even I barely acknowledge it  ) . The overwhelmimg early successes of the coaltion fostered the belief that it would be a short victorious war, so now would be the time to settle any old (or new) scores..

Ahh Trauma, abusing the English language again are you?
I think one of the following would better fit with the point you're trying to get across..

 painful,humiliating,depressing,pitful,demoralizing, embarrassing

Still, given the ass-whupping you FSD types will be receiving, I'm impressed with your enthusiasm.

Answer:  The extreme drain on the production facilities by the Lyran royal family who ran ship after ship into asteroids, planets, and enemy ships.  A "strategic offensive" also requires the element of strategy, something that was far beyond the comprehension of the Lyran throne.   ;) :P ;D

Note:  wont have much time to do any serious D@ flying but will make efforts to play on this one as it looks to be fun.

You know the FSD should consider placing themselves at the head of several houses rather than clustering up in one, might be more interesting that way as it would more evenly distribute experienced Lyran pilots.

Sounds good, honestly I'd hate to have to fly against all of you on one side in your own races ships, and I do have Lyran experience, for a non-experienced Lyran pilot it would be even worse.

<shrug>

Of course they can if they want to, I had assumed (hopefully not being too presumptuous ) that KBF would core a clan , KHH would core a clan
and well that someone else would run one.
Wanderer had a whole list.. but of course he's left I guess so..

And I'm not really worried about the match ups FSD will (of course) likely have an advantage, but really the main Lyran ship (CWL) is out at the server start
and it can really teach anyone all they need to know about flying Lyran.
My real concern is after everyone finds out how fun our ships are that no one will want to fly anything else ever again..

(And of course In any event of course most of the BCH's and DN's in Lyran service are controlled by the Imperial Government so...  ;D )

I agree there Lyran ships are really fun to fly, unless fighting a starcastling Hydran.

I'm sure the handful of KBF still playing this game will be there.  ;)
