RSE D'Dval class Battlecruiser Concept WIP....
« on: May 29, 2006, 07:24:43 pm »
Ok, I got sick of needling the Borg textures and meshes, so I decided to make a model from scratch. This one has been wanting to be made for a while, and here is my progress sofar. I had to make a few changes here and there, like the spine, and the head is not as wide as the concept, but it is generally there.

Let me know what you think sofar. Note, I still have not done the chin ledges, tail module or ledges, or the bottom semi-wing. Just working on the top at the moment.

this is verry cool and great design, much better than the most of those Nemesis or post Nemesis movie era Romulan designs  :) 8) :o ;D

Looks like you've got another great Rommie in the making raven. I can't wait to add her to my collection. I've replaced almost all the stock RSE models with your designs.

Yes, I must agree.  I wasn't a huge fan of the Romulan ships they had on Nemisis.  I wish they had designed the new Romulan ships much like this for Nemisis.    ::)

Thanks guys...ran into two problems you guys might help me with.

Ok, first, the gap between the top and bottom wings is very small on purpose. The problem is when I give the edge of the wings the drop they need for the nacelles, the flat bottom wing cuts into the nacelle...so I had to dogleg the wing, so to speak. Let me know if it looks wrong to you.

Second, the side view looks a little odd...I think it might need the but end to come up a bit to flatten out the spine...you can tell me if that is the case.

Note....the bottom wing, stages behind the chin, underpiinnings under the back spine and the bottom tail...basically the entire bottom side...is just a placecard, so to speak. Just to give an idea of how it will look. Only the top part, shown in the first post is pretty much done.

Raven - nice design so take this for what it is worth since I can't hold a candle to your ability.

I'd arch the top wing spine upward some if I were you - it looks a little flat from the side view. As for the bottom wing. I'd arch it downward to mirror the top or just delete it and go with a single wing design for a change.

Looks promising as is and I'll put her in game as is in a heartbeat.

Here are some of my suggestions...

I have to kinda disagree with Redneck about the Wings.  I actually like how they look straight in the design.  I've seen a lot of Romulan Designs over the years on this board and although they look cool, I think some of the Designers try too make the ships TOO bird like.  I'm assuming the Top Wing has the Engineering Compartments and too me, I think having High Angled wings would make cause too much design problems for the Power Grid or how Power gets too the Warp Engines.  Ya, I know Romulans kinda design there Ships "Bird like", but some artist on this board sometimes go a bit overboard in my book.  I think having the Straight wings look fine.

As for the Bottom Wing, I would like too make a suggestion of adding a small added Section to the Bottom.  This could a Modular section capable of doing multimle things.  Like an Extra Weapons Module could be added to this section.  Or a small Engineering section Module could be added to give the ship more power or a secondary Warp Core incase the Primary goes off Line (ie. Back up).  This section could also have a module that has special Hardpoints to conect it too a Cargo Pod to convert it too a tug.  Just some ideas I would do if you wanted too add something to the bottom Wings.

Ok, well, Raven added more to the bottom wings, you'll be able to get a better look from the pics below. When I made the pics of his model, it was pretty close to done, and now the holes are covered, so all it needs is input at this point, any changes as a result, and it will be a finished mesh after he fixes any errors.

He tried to add a "skid plate" so to speak, like on the D'Deridex, but made it part of the impulse system. The rear of the plates have an impulse vent, and so do the top wings. This ship will differ from other Romulan ships in a few distinct ways...first, the ship relies more on armor and less on shelding, allowing more power for weapons, and this ship needs it...it has 2 medium disruptor modules dorsal and two ventral (the green glowie circles on the top and bottom of the wings). Most Romulan ships have little, if any, dorsal and ventral coverage. At least the ones that Raven designs seem to. The other notable difference is that this ship will have reasonable aft weaponry as well. Not sure what he's going to put there yet, there are no marks on this mesh for them to the rear.

Up front, she has two "dualies" as he calls them (torp launchers/disruptors) in the nose, and 2 heavy disruptors (bottom wings), 6 mediums (top wings) giving her a good bite I think. She's faster than most Romulan ships, though not as fast as the Pvor I'm guessing, very menuverable, and can also act as a light transport, with the ability to attach extra modules at the rear of the ship to carry even more cargo. Cool idea.

She does not, however, carry any troops. Why that is important, I dont know. Space is limited on board apparantly. Armor is extra heavy on the ships "head", a little lighter to the rear. She can almost match a capital ship in firepower in a much smaller size, at least that is the way it sounds.

Now, the drawbacks. The weapons are powerful, but are not of the quickload variety that most Romulan ships he designs have. Only the medium disruptor banks in the forward wing are quickload, the rest have higher than normal load times. Also, the ship still remains underpowered with respect to top warp speed. I'm thinking most Federation ships can still outrun this vessel. Finally, she has limited range, so this isn't a deep space vessel...you'll see it running patrols close to a starbase or other support facility.

Ok, enough on his info....I was thinking I wanted this ship to be small, somewhere around the size of the Soveriegn perhaps. Not small compared to other ships in the capital line, but small for a Romulan. Could even go a little smaller, but I think she needs to be bigger than the Valdore. Raven is in agreement, what do you guys think?

I just love this design. I had to share his work with you guys sofar.

Looking very nice.  Glad too see that you kept the wings straight.   :)  One question, I've notice this in a few other TNG Romulan Designs, but what are the Round things on top of the wings and at the bottom?  Even the D'Deridex Class had these too and I always thought they looked like Weapons Mounts maybe.  I hope you know what i"m talking about.

Well......you were close anyway.

I didnt agree for it to be small Mike........I want it to be maybe 1000 meters, smaller than the DDeridex but much larger than the Sov. Weaponry would be more powerful as well. What I said is I originally DESIGNED this to be a small ship lol. I think it needs to be larger though.

I finished the model. It just needs some tweaking, but since you already posted pics of the mesh I sent you, Ill refrain from posting new ones. BTW, the round things on the top and bottom of the ship, on the wings, are distruptor ports. I imagined they were short range defensive weapons, since Romulan ships seem to have really narrow firing arcs, at least according to the show.

I also noticed my Karma keeps dropping......I guess someone here doesnt like me too much. If Im doing something wrong to warrant a lower Karma, speak up.....if it is wrong I am sure I will adjust my behavior.

I wouldn't worry about the karma, some scumbag coward was pressing mine almost daily for reasons unknown and it only improved when I posted an opinion on a ship or in a contraversial thread that should have gotten me flammed...go figure.
