Ilmarinen class... heavy destroyer?
« on: May 29, 2006, 09:29:26 pm »
I thought I should try my hand at making a classic style destroyer and I came up with this;

Heres the LWO; http://outalance.battleclinic.com/darkcentral/dldir/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=233
credits as usually go out to gafy and p81 :)

Nice design Mackie.  How about Light Destoyer?  It does looks like a Destroyer in my book, but you have the old Conie type Neck region with only a couple of Single Fire Photon Tubes.  I think it has good Phaser Firepower, but it probably lacks good Photon Armament, maybe even Missiles/Drones too if you use those weapons.

True enough ;p
But could you think of of a better neck for it? If I could of have I propably wouldnt have used the age old Connie one :/
Drones sound mighty interesting, dont drones usually just use small shuttle bay looking textures over the hull?
The only other way I could figure how to increase the fire power was to put a rollbar on it but that way it looked a little bit over powered and didnt really fit that well :P

@ SF2 and Riptide, thanks :)

Love it, but could you do another variant with an  added nacelle above so its an Akula sytle it allows for a heavy destroyer and a light cruiser variants.

Eh, yeah, a lovely idea but theres that glowing blue whatchamacallit on the top so I dont think theres room for a second akule stylee nacella :/

Mackie, this ship could be armed more with Drones/Missiles then Photons.  As you pointed out, its very possible that the Shuttle Bays could be converted to Missile Launchers fairly easily.  This is why I suggested it too be a Light Destroyer because its main Armaments might be Missiles instead of Photons.

Not sure about the Role bar idea.  I was never a big fan of many Fed Designs with Role Bars (Miranda's) because it just seems like a hassele to get power into those Torpedo Pods and by the looks of them, they look to be fully automated with limited amounts of Photon Storage.
