OTish: Model news from Star Trek: Legacy
« on: May 16, 2006, 01:39:03 pm »
From Gamespot

Quote
Legacy will cover all the eras of Star Trek, and it features vessels from every Star Trek television series, including the original series, Enterprise, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. There are more than 60 vessels in the game, and we're told that some of the most dedicated and capable Star Trek ship modelers contributed to the game, including Rick Knox, who designed some of the most photo-realistic mods for Star Trek: Bridge Commander. Each vessel has between 5,000 and 10,000 polygons, and they really come to life like never before in a game.

What's your high-end SFC model run you these days?

Man, I am sure not a fan of that ship right there. It looks similar to the FBB from SFC, I thought they could have done better than that  :-[

I have a feeling that, although I might be able to handle this for the most part given the model descriptions (of how many polygons ship models have) since I have a bunch of high-polygon models for SFC1, something keeps telling me I might have to have a computer upgrade before I ever get Star Trek: Legacy, if trying out the demo version of "Nexus: The Jupiter Incident" told me anything.

You may have to anyway if the game requires a DX9-era card like Bethesda's Oblivion did.

That's what I was afraid of since I haven't ever got around to upgrading anything in three years. *shrug* Oh well.  Maybe I'll get around to it this year or next but otherwise I might just go ahead and stick to the older games like SFC1 or 2.

Legacy looks promising graphics-wise (the models look good, albeit in that other video the name and registry for the refitted Big E looks off), but we'll find out how good it is in every other aspect upon its release when most of us get the chance to get a heads-on try at it (I say most for the aforementioned reasons my first few sentences in this message states).

that connie manuvers like an old biplane, drags it's tail and looks like it's being lead along by the nose. I hate the way it seems to manuver.

Looks like the COG is off when the exported it (loks to be in the back portion of the saucer), besides that looks good to me, and seems to be more fluid in controls, much better than BC IMHO

I just hope they give Atra, P81, and MoonRaker credit for the parts of the ships they are using.

I look at that pic and see someone elses work.
People always said they wanted the government to listen to them and now the government is listening, taking notes and names...and coming to see you soon!

It looks like they have, at least with P81/Rick Knox here, and because of that I believe the creators would give credit to anyone else for the work they made that are used in the game (or created for it, either way).

seems that we have soon one more game with a good idea but with uberugly ship designs like this in the pic and on other pics you could see that some ships have superior bumpmaped detail (NX-era sh** ships) and the most TMP have only some bumpmaped detail

Making a game spaning all eras of Trek should even not include the NX pseudo pre TOS for me because it lags the true spirit of Star Trek and this even show the NX-era ship designs and episodes

I read somewhere yesterday that P81 was one of the key modellers for the game.

If you look closely at the ships in 1-6 you'll notice they were realativly smooth outside of panels lines on the saucers and a few other areas.  So to say the TMP ships are getting short end of the deal is a falacy based upon actual TMP designs.

Well, if it's modable it wont matter. This community can create better textures then activision or whoever it is anyways, bump, and spec maps are no exception.
